DJ AM Found Dead

DJ AM, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, was once thought to be dead last year in a plane crash, but miraculously, he and fellow musician Travis Barker survived the tragic event that claimed the lives of four others. Now, however, TMZ is reporting that DJ AM has really been found dead in his New York City apartment. According to the 'New York Post', drug paraphernalia was found at the scene of this death, leading many to speculate that his name will be added to the ever-growing list of dead celebrities whose lives were lost due to substance abuse.

Other celebrities who were recently found dead after what turned out to be drug overdoses are Heath Ledger, whose young life being brought to an end so soon shocked many fans, and of course the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson. DJ AM may not be as well-known as these two men, but his death isn't any less shocking.

DJ AM is probably most known for dating Nicole Richie, being briefly engaged to the young reality show actress. Apparently DJ AM had suffered from a drug addiction in the past, but had seemingly moved on from it, even working on a new show for MTV that's aimed at helping young people get sober. However, according to Perez Hilton, DJ AM had been suffering a bout with depression lately. This could have been due to his efforts to quit the pain medication which he was taking due to the horrific plane crash he was involved in almost a year ago. DJ AM and Travis Barker were both badly injured in the plane crash, but had seemingly recovered rather well, especially considering the fact that early reports stated that both were dead.

It's so sad that almost a year after surviving that horrific plane crash, it still could have claimed the life of DJ AM in because of the pain medication he was taking due to the effects of it. According to Perez Hilton, the last posting on DJ AM's Twitter page is a cryptic one: "New York, New York. Big city of dreams, but everything in New York ain't always what it seems". This message does sound like something someone feeling extremely down would post, but we may never know what he was truly thinking and feeling when DJ AM died alone in his apartment.

Sadly, it was days before any of his friends went to check on him, after no one had heard from him in awhile. When he didn't answer his door, authorities broke into the apartment and found his body, as well as prescription pill bottles and a crack pipe.

DJ AM may have been using drugs as a way to dull his pain, physical or mental, or he may have actually been trying to take his own life. Regardless of what the real story is, this is another tragic tale of what can happen when the lifestyle that comes along with celebrity leads a bright young person down the wrong path, one that's very difficult to ever find your way back to happier place on.
