DJ Kitty: Tampa Bay Rays New Mascot

Will the Funny Cat Videos Featuring DJ Kitty Be the Next YouTube Sensation?

Julia Williams
What can you do if you're a Major League Baseball team with depressingly low attendance figures? The marketing geniuses behind the Tama Bay Rays recently introduced DJ Kitty, a cool cat who shows off his mad skills with the crossfader in two funny cat videos. DJ Kitty can also be seen on the Jumbotron at the Tropicana Stadium, pumping up Tampa Bay fans as he scratches "Jump" by The Movement and Gucci Mane's "Wasted."

Whether DJ Kitty can become the next funny cat video to go viral remains to be seen. Like Charlie Schmidt's famous Keyboard Cat, DJ Kitty is racking up the views on YouTube; however, he still has a long way to go before catching up to Keyboard Cat, whose funny cat video has nearly 10 million views on YouTube as of this writing. And the original amazing video of Nora the Piano Cat (who by the way actually plays the piano instead of just pawing it like a puppet) has reached nearly 19 million views.

Will DJ Kitty Help the Tampa Bay Rays?

Can a super cool cat pretending to be a deejay get Major League Baseball fans fired up? It's too early to tell whether DJ Kitty and his mad "scratching skills" can boost attendance for the Tampa Bay Rays. The DJ Kitty videos are hilarious though, and he certainly makes a unique (and very hip) mascot.

In the videos, DJ Kitty wears a Tampa Bay Rays team jersey, backward baseball cap and chunky silver necklace, but it's his gangster "catitude" that makes him a true superstar. DJ Kitty waves his paws in the air "like he just don't care," yet the expression on his face clearly says, "I'm going to get you for this." Take it from me: somebody better sleep with one eye open.

Is DJ Kitty a Gifted Musician?

DJ Kitty has been called the "2010 reincarnation of Keyboard Cat," who many regard as the greatest cat musician of all time, although fans of the truly talented Nora the Piano Cat will vehemently disagree. Regardless of his musical aptitude, the black and white housecat christened DJ Kitty is sure to amass his own large fan base. Let's face it, we love funny cat videos almost as much as we love cats who play (or pretend to play) musical instruments.

The DJ Kitty videos are highly entertaining, but don't take my word for it - you can check them out for yourself here. DJ Kitty may not become the next Keyboard Cat internet sensation, and he may not boost attendance for the Tampa Bay Rays. But if the turntable antics of DJ Kitty can't get those baseball fans out of their seats for the seventh inning stretch, then nothing can. Play on, DJ Kitty!
