We don't yet know when the 2011 NFL regular season will begin. We do know, however, that at least one of Big Blue's running backs will be on the roster whenever the NFL labor dispute is settled.

The New York Giants confirmed via press release that running back D.J. Ware has signed a contract extension with the team. While the Giants have not yet disclosed specific information regarding the contract, it is being reported that the deal is worth $2 million over the next two seasons.

Ware was not a significant part of the Giants rushing attack in 2010, finishing the season with 73 yards on just 20 rushing attempts. He did emerge as the team's leading kickoff returner by season's end, however, and could resume that role next season.

Ware's contract extension will have little to no impact on how the team handles either Ahmad Bradshaw or Brandon Jacobs. Bradshaw's contract with the Giants has expired but team officials have made it clear over the past two months that the long term plan is to re-sign the running back whenever a new CBA is in place. It has been rumored that Brandon Jacobs may eventually be released as a cost-cutting move whenever a salary cap is implemented, but such a move doesn't appear to be on the horizon.
