Do I Have to Do This Again?

Harold Dean Sink
Early rising in the morning
Only to find that slumber lingers.
Dreams half dreamed with glazed eyes
Looking around the room for recognition.
Am I ready for this again?

Hot water trickles down my back
As I lather on the soap.
Shampoo smells good while it sets.
The final rinse before drying off.
Am I really ready for this?

Lather and shave being careful
Not to cut my face again.
Rinse, gargle and repeat.
Tis so boring this routine.
Do I really want to do this again?

Some news and food with dog begging.
Lingering relatives from Christmas sleeping.
Must get to work without too much hassle.
Oh, how I wish I did not have to go in.
Must I really keep doing this again?

Lord, hear my prayer this morning.
Help me keep my tongue on guard.
Hold me back from running.
Keep my anger in check.
Help them see this person you made,
And why you put me where I am today.
