Do You Have All the Pieces?

Paula Carpenter
Matthew 7:22-23 On the last day many people will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, we spoke for you, and through you we forced out demons and did many miracles.'
Then I will tell them clearly, 'Get away from me, you who do evil. I never knew you.'

As I start my Junior year of college, I am ecstatic to find that I'm finally getting to take classes in my major field of study. Being able to work with the Marketing Director at the Children's Science Museum this fall has allowed me to acquire skills that can only enhance my learning experiences. For instance, just this week, I learned an important lesson just opening the door to the office.
The door leading from the museum floor has a numerical lock on it. You punch in the code, the door unlocks and you gain entrance to the break room, executive offices, warehouse and employee parking lot.

My last task before leaving work yesterday, was to make a quick sweep of the exhibit space and make sure that none of other volunteers needed a break. I headed back into the office to get my jacket, purse and keys; waving to Jennifer in the Gift Shop as I punched in the code. I waited to hear it unlock. Nothing happened. I tried the door knob, but it was still locked. Thinking that I'd punched in the wrong code, I tried it again. Nothing. Jennifer, sensing something was wrong came over.

"Did they change the code?" I asked
"No, I just went in a few minutes ago." She replied.

Once again I punched in the code. Suddenly, Jennifer started giggling, and reaching over my shoulder, she hit the unlock button at the bottom of the keypad. The door immediately whirred as it unlocked. I hung my head as laughter consumed us both. I couldn't believe that I'd forgotten something so simple, yet so important.

The bible says that there will be many who stand before Christ on Judgment Day and proclaim all of the things that they've done in His Name. But they've forgotten the one important step...a relationship with Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. How sad for them who hear the words "Depart from me, I never knew you".

We can preach, teach, sing, work and worship, but if we haven't asked Christ into our hearts to be our Lord, it will all be for nothing. The good news is that if you're reading this it isn't too late to do that if you haven't already. Let this be the day that you accept the free gift of Salvation.
