I don't like calling it a diet because that makes it sound like you're restricting yourself from certain things. Calling it a diet is like saying you're being punished when really you're helping your body become a lot healthier which is actually a reward in itself.
Here are some ideas that will help you on your road to weight loss:
Before you jump into a program make sure you have some strength on your side to keep you going. Tell your friends and family that you've decided to lose some weight so that you will have some support especially when you hit a bump in the road or feel as though you just can't go on because it's too hard. Having encouragement will help you continue on your path, don't try and do it alone it will be a lot harder to do.
Make a pro and cons list on why you want to lose weight. If you have a reason to lose weight chances are you'll fight harder to do so if you can see your reasons in front of you. Also a cons list will help you to see the negatives of your weight and how it's hindering your life. After you've made your list place it somewhere you will be able to
see if every day to help you.
Set goals for yourself and be realistic about them. If you've never gone for a walk before or exercised don't try and overdo it the first day you start. A good place to start is walking 30 minutes a day you start to burn fat when you've been walking for 30 minutes. Take the stairs instead of the elevator; park further away from where you're going so you have to walk a few extra steps every little bit will help you to your goal. If you start find walking easier than start increasing your time so that you're still challenging yourself. If you're not feeling the workout is challenging anymore than its too easy for you. If you struggle with food start by cutting down you're portion sizes so that you're eating less. Learn the differences between complex carbohydrates and simple carbohydrates. Eating complex carbohydrates such as whole grain breads will make you feel fuller longer.
As much as it can be dreadful at the beginning track your weight and inches as you go along. When you start losing weight it can actually be a very encouraging tool. Seeing your progress is something you can be very proud of. I would keep track of your food as well if you're not having the results you're looking for then you can look back and see what you were doing and how you can make different changes. Give yourself a starting date and track your progress every week for the first month and then every 2 weeks after that.
Be prepared for some obstacles along the way. You're going to see people eating chips and chocolate all the time. You have to mentally challenge yourself to stay away from temptation. Have someone that you can be accountable too that will help you stick to your goals and stay away from junk food. If you do end up eating something that you know will not help you lose weight just pick yourself back up and keep on with your plan. Don't stop your new lifestyle!
Stay positive!
Don't tell yourself you can't do it because you can no matter what anyone tells you, you can do it!
