Do You Believe in Angels?

Did you know that there are angels all around us, watching over us, assigned by God Almighty, to each and every specific human? Click on the picture. We felt very protected on the day of a family excursion one day in Kansas. During a family get together in 1997 near Girard, Kansas, we gazed up and took this picture of what appeared to be an angel. This is an actual picture and has not been doctored or falsified in any way. Who knows whether it was an actual angel or not, but from the Bible, we know that they do exist. They are not to be worshipped but they are assigned by God as our protectors of physical and spiritual dangers. They can take human form when they are commanded to do so. Some angels may appear visible to some people while not to others. We might have even entertained angels without even knowing it. The Bible records incidents where humans treated angels badly whom they thought were people but in actuality were angels. And with disastrous results.

For each and every Christian and each and every child, the Bible indicates that each one of us has at least one, maybe more,angel that are assigned to us (Luke 22:43, Acts 22-25). They're commanded to "encamp all around us" and keep us from falling, getting hurt, who have been "...from this time forth and forever to be with us"... and even strengthen us, and minister to us (Luke 22:43, Psalm 34:7, 91:10-13, 103:21). That is not saying that we won't ever get sick or get a disease or get hurt, since we all must die someday (Heb. 9:27).

The chubby little baby angels that are often depicted are not biblical. They are powerful, spiritual agents under God's sovereign will. These angels are not passive, but active and powerful in nature, and might taken physical form as a person, if God so wills it. We may have even encountered and entertained angels without even knowing it or without being aware of it (Heb 13:1-2). That's a scary thought. It makes you want to always treat people with love and respect. And angels sometimes have divine duties or appointments that we may not even understand like the pool of water that theologians still can not figure out, where they were said to stir the waters up on occasion for healing purposes and these examples are recorded in holy scripture; in the inspired Word of God (John 5:3-4).

Matthew 18:10 indicates that children have their own angels with the scriptures saying, "See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven." There is reason enough to never harm a child in anyway, but there is the realization that angels are dispatched for each and every child. The Bible does not say that these angels are only for the children of saved parents, but indicative of all children having one (at minimum).

Protection is vital since that roaming lion hides and lies in wait for us (Satan-1 Pet 5:8) and evil spirits that rule this world that seek to destroy His own (Math 18:10), however if God is for us, who can be against us!? The sheer numbers of holy angels disposed to fight for us is uncountable (Dan. 7:10, Heb 12:22). And since God's Word is true, then why should we fear what anyone can do to us?

So be cautious in how you treat others, particularly strangers, or anyone you might have never met before, or someone you may encounter during your day. The Bible says that many have already had contact with angels, either knowing it or not (Heb. 13). Using the word "many" in the text indicates that this must be common for Christians. Perhaps not everyday in the sense of seeing them, but most of us have surely heard of others who have experienced encounters that could only be explained by divine intervention (or angels). We should take comfort in the fact that they are there for us....our own personal angel. In fact, the New Testament mentions that Lazarus was "carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom" after he had died (Luke 16:22) so it may even be that even we may have more than one angel who is assigned to us.

Revelation talks about angels of particular churches. Do these angels fight Satan and his demons, like an angel had to fight for three weeks to finally get a message through to Daniel (10:13)? In fact, it sometimes takes more than one angel, like the help needed from one of the most powerful angels...Michael, the Archangel. Michael was dispatched to come to prevent this "prince of the kingdom of Persia" from preventing another angel from delivering a message to Daniel (Dan 10). This "prince" was likely from the fallen angels or Satan himself.

As a general rule, Christians ought to treat even strangers with love and compassion, especially since angels are enormously powerful (Rev 18:21) and are, like God, no respecter of persons. Even a king once was not spared (Acts 12:20-25) as he boasted that "I am a god", which the angel apparently took offense at, since he knew there is only One, True God. The point is that we should naturally want to treat others better than our self.

Take comfort in the knowledge that we are secure in Christ's very own hands and in the hands of the Father (John 10:28-29) and that He's dispensed angels for our physical protection and strengthening (Heb. 1:14). Yes my friends, there are angels all around us...each of us having at least one angel [there may be even more] assigned by God for a specific purpose. That of our protection. And I thank God for that. Not that I worship angels, but the Lord of Lords and King of Kings who saw fit to protect His own sheep. To protect those whom even the angels know, are of His very own flock.

You may never see one, nor may ever encounter one, but apparently everyone has their own angel. For adults, these angels may be assigned to those individual Christians and not all people in general. The main thing is that I hope all been saved and accepted Christ and been baptized, since He could return at any time (Rev. 12:12, 11 Cor. 2:11, Luke 12:13-21, 19:8-9). The angels are said to rejoice at the saving of even one person. And why not!? That's great news. The angels can then know for certain, as well as the person saved, that eternity in God's presence has been achieved. Being human is still 100% fatal. Everyone will die and face judgment and every secret thing that men and women do or have ever done in their lives, will be made known before the BEMA Seat of Christ (the one you want to be at) or the Great White Throne Judgment (I wish this on no one) as stated in the Bible (Rom. 2:16). Your time to decide is right now, for no one has any guarantee of what tomorrow brings or if we will even live beyond today.

Here's how to make the angels rejoice and secure your place in eternity today, right now:

Admit that you are a sinner and in need of a Savior (Rom 6:23)

Abandon your self-effort and realize you nor I can be saved by our own works or efforts (Acts 16:31)

Accept freely Christ's payment for your sins, required of the Father. (John 3:16)

Acknowledge Jesus Christ as your personal lord and Savior (Acts 4:12)

If you have just received Jesus, you have now received God's inheritance rights since youare now a son or daughter of His and can never be lost again & live forever (John 10:28-29).
