Do You Have a Birth Verse?

Memorize and Meditate Upon Your Birth Verse

Annette Robbins
My husband received an email from a friend and shared it with my family and me. The email explained that we all have a birth verse and gave information about how to select a birth verse based upon the date and month of your birth. I have heard of individuals who state a favorite verse that they have chosen to be their life verse but had never heard of the concept of a birth verse. Nevertheless, I was intrigued by the email so we entered my numerical birth day and month and my birth verse is I Kings 8:23 "...and he said, O Lord God of Israel, there is no other God like you in heaven or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart". As I read and considered this verse, it reminded me of the basic truth that there is no other God like our Lord God in all the universe and He keeps His promises and bestows His mercy upon all who endeavor to do His will wholeheartedly with a purposeful desire to please Him. After sharing the email with family, some of our family members have informed us that they have memorized their birth verse. They, too, were intrigued with the idea of having a birth verse.

The Story of Birth Verse
I wondered how the Birth Verse concept was developed so I visited the Birth Verse website and read that the idea for a birth verse originated with Bob Harju, owner of Pumpernickel Press, a greeting card company. He was praying for a way to introduce a creative idea to his greeting card line. Meanwhile, as Providence would have it, one of his employees was also praying for a new idea and noticed that Bible chapters and verses could somehow be used to correlate with birth dates. Sometime later the owner and his employee along with their spouses had dinner together. Neither knew that the other had come up with a similar idea. When they both shared their ideas, they were amazed that they had developed similar thoughts without having discussed their ideas previously. As a result, the birth verse concept was born. The owner and his employee began the tedious search for the very best Bible verse for each day. As you read the account on the birth verse website, many hours and much prayer were spent in looking through the Holy Scriptures, reviewing the verses and then diligently and prayerfully selecting the verses. As a result of meticulous research, 366 Bible verses were selected as Birth Verses.

Consider a Birth Verse for a Newborn
Expectant parents might select a birth verse for their child and have it made into a wall plaque or printed on the birth announcements or inscribed in their child's first Bible. As we journey through life we may find support in times of need by meditating upon and remembering our birth verse. As we face different situations in our lives, we can find strength and encouragement as well as build up our faith through reading the Scriptures. I have committed my birth verse to memory and will meditate upon the verse periodically as I do my daily Scripture reading during my "quiet time".

The birth verse should not be viewed as a magical device or something to be repeated over and over with the expectation that if one memorizes it or repeats it routinely for a prescribed time period you automatically will receive whatever you desire. Instead, the birth verse can be a reminder of God's provision and faithfulness to His children and inspire us to truly meditate upon His Word and apply the message of our birth verse to our everyday lives.

What a great way to start scripture memorization. You also pray for others according to their birthdates and related birthverses. Thanks for sharing.
