Do You Blame Fast Food for Your Weight Gain?

Rebecca Garnett
Our bodies are designed to save our lives no matter what the cost. No matter how many different diets or weight loss programs you join or try, your body is designed to store a certain amount of fat. It's a safety precaution in case food is no longer available to the body. It starts to feed off fat that's stored to keep itself functioning.

Fighting fat seems to be our number one goal in life because we all want to be skinny and look like a girl on the cover of a magazine. Our bodies seem to have a different opinion of what it wants as most of us know because our fight to lose weight seems to always be a struggle. We have many different systems in our body that allow us to gain weight instead of losing it.

Believe it or not our problems with weight started long before fast food chains even entered into our society. We've only noticed it so much more now because fast food restaurants are on every corner and not only our adults gaining weight but children are as well. We live in a fast moving society where we want everything in an instance so grabbing food on the way to work is a lot easier than making meals anymore.

With that being said because of the food we eat today we are actually poisoning our systems instead of helping them. Our bodies were originally designed to help us lose weight but because of all the unhealthy food we put into our systems we have actually triggered the weight gaining side of our anatomy instead of the weight loss side.

How do we help change this problem? You have to start from scratch and reprogrammed your body to function the way it designed to work from the beginning.

As I was saying earlier, our weight gain didn't start with fast food. It actually started with the beginning of agriculture. Agriculture made sure that there was always a steady supply of food. Before agriculture came about our ancestors had to hunt for their food so they didn't eat a lot of sugar and salt because it was scare among them. They only could eat what they could find of course, and that was mostly grains, vegetable and meats.

Meat provided protein, vitamins, minerals and fatty acids. All of these things combined together helped our ancestors grow taller and their brains developed larger. The meat our ancestors ate was lower in fat and high in protein. Since agriculture evolved our cows have been domesticated and have been raised on corn fed grain. Therefore, the meat we eat is fattier and taster because of the change in feed. True wild game has about 4% fat, farm raised cows now have 9x's the fat wild game would have.

As you can see there is a huge difference in the meat our ancestors ate vs. what we eat today.

Our ancestors were able to eat freely with no stress of gaining weight because they're food wasn't processed and their wild game wasn't compromised. Therefore, their bodies were functioning properly with the foods given to it without adding on the excess weight that we would be adding on today. Dieting wasn't even a thought in their mind because weight wasn't an issue for them and their bodies were healthy as well.

We on the other hand our obsessed with weight, restrict ourselves from so many different foods, and actually end up with unhealthy bodies at the same time. So what's the key to starting your weight loss? Start eating like our ancestors did. Cut out the sugars and white breads in your diets and get back to natural foods. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean meats not only will you lose weight your body will start functioning properly again!
