Do You Have a Bucket List?

Bill Hanks
I am going to be 60 years old in December. Some people, mostly those younger than myself, consider that old. However, people older than me, consider that still young. To me I am 59 soon to be 60.

Now I have done a lot of things in my life. Way too many to mention or bore someone reading this article. However, since I retired as am educator and coach, I have started doing different things. First off, I am a content producer for Associated Content. That alone is pretty nice. However, I feel pretty good about writing for AC, because I have gotten others involved in writing as well. Some of those appreciated the chance to express themselves plus get paid for it. Some of them truly needed the income. Still some just like to know that they are still making a difference.

I have written on everything from politics to sports and then some. I have even written about things that I don't understand like "Time Travel to a Parallel Universe." I have learned a great deal from other writers on here as well.

Another thing that I have done is been a member of our City Council as an alderman. I am trying to make a difference for others. I am also presently working for a Midwestern College in the area of supervising student teachers in the area of Physical Education. Again, I am trying to help others. I am even the President of our Church Congregation. My focus there has been on helping others with worship as well as personal problems.

I guess one could say that my main focus since I retired is to try and help others out.

Still in the back of my mind or some other goals. I want to publish a book. I hope it sells but, as long as I get it done that's all that matters. I think that I would like to take my wife to Palm Springs, California for a week and just check out the place and relax. Although I am not a golfer, it might be fun to play 18 holes there just to say I did it . I also think that I would like to go to New York City between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I think that I would like to volunteer and help people rebuild from a tornado some place. I would also like to see the location of Associated Content and how it works.

Now a lot of these goals depend on money. Being retired, I am on a fixed income. So I am on a quest, with my wife, to try and achieve these goals before my Bucket List expires. Maybe I will make them, maybe not.

This brings me to you the reader. Have you made out a Bucket List for yourself? What are some things that you want to do? Are they realistic goals? How many people have you tried to help? What have you done for your wife or better yet yourself?

Each one of us has things that we think about from time to time. Sometimes we consider them as pipe dreams. Too good to come true. Here's a thought. why not make out a Bucket List. On the list, put down some small things that mean a lot to others. Then put down some things that You want to do.

I have a good friend by the name of Alban Mehling. He is also a content producer for Associated Content. Not too long ago we almost lost him. I am positive that he still has things to accomplish. When I didn't hear from Alban for several weeks, I thought the worst. Thank goodness I was wrong.

However, it reinforced my idea about my own Bucket List. I don't care what your age is, everyone needs to set goals. When you accomplish that goal, you set another, and then another. That is how you reach a fullness in life.

The movie "The Bucket List" is about two men living out their dreams before they move on. I contend, "Let's not wait." Even if your job doesn't allow you to do things that you want. There are still things that you can do. Maybe you want to learn how to play a musical instrument, travel, run for public office, get a degree, or just help the homeless. Don't wait till it is too late. Make out your list and start mapping out a plan.

Just an average Joe living in the Midwest. I am a retired High School teacher/coach. I work part time for a small college. I am president of our local Kiwanis club. I am also a city alderman. But, most of...  View profile

Thank you for sharing this life intersects art article. My bucket list also includes writing a book , taking a community service 'vacation' , and getting to NYC at holiday time at least one more time. I think I was too young to really take it all in the first time. The years certainly do bring appreciation for the little things, don't they? :)

A "bucker list". That is an interesting concept. I am 64 and I will look at this idea! Thank you.
