Do Fans Really Care If Melo Leaves Denver?

Y! Lyn
The fact that Carmelo Anthony (Melo) may be leaving the Denver Nuggets is not really a shocker to most fans. It's been a real possibility for quite some time now. Will Denver fans actually miss Melo or will they be glad to see him go? As a long time Nuggets fan, I feel it will be a loss and he will be missed both on the court and around the community. But at the same time, it may actually be a good decision.

Attitude is everything

Melo has expressed that he has no intention of staying with the Nuggets. If the franchise ignores this fact, they could lose out big time when Melo's contract is up. At least if a trade deal is made, Denver gets something in return for the loss. If done right, they may even end up on top. Honestly, with this kind of attitude, fans like myself would rather see Mr. Anthony go. If he's not happy, then his game may suffer and we certainly don't want to see that displayed on the court - even if for a short time.

A trade to New Jersey Nets in order?

The Nets look to be top contenders in a trade deal involving Melo. This deal makes the most sense, as far as benefiting Denver. Melo can agree to a $65 million three-year extend-and-trade deal if traded to New Jersey. This benefits Anthony. But at the same time, it is also a benefit to Denver. There has been discussion of Denver possibly receiving Derrick Favors from the Nets and Andrei Kirilenko from the Utah Jazz if Carmelo gets traded to the Nets.

What about Anthony's charity involvements?

Melo has been involved in a host of charitable events, contributions, and more. He is a real asset to the local community and will be a great loss in this area. Camp Melo is the basketball camp for kids where Anthony makes a positive difference in the lives of children every year. He also recently made a $330 million trade for charity. He may continue some of his efforts. But any local commitments will likely have to end if he leaves the Nuggets.

What if Melo leaves for the Knicks?

Anthony has expressed much interest in signing with the New York Knicks. If Denver doesn't take the trade opportunity when they can, it's a very real possibility he may do just that. If so, it would put the Nuggets in a tough position. While some fans, like myself, would rather Melo stayed, we may need to face reality. He is very likely to go whether we want him to or not.

Do fans really care?

Anthony is definitely loved by many Denver fans. But would they really care if he left? Of course. But at the same time, Nuggets fans want what's best for the team. When you have a player talking of leaving that team, you have to consider alternatives. Even die-hard fans will admit that when it comes down to choosing success for the team as a whole or just one player, you're going to choose the former. True fans of a player are going to want that person to be where his heart is and if it isn't Denver, well then it just isn't. There's nothing we can do about that.

Continuing charity support can only help a person's image. If he leaves I hope that happens.
