Do You Fear the Lord?

Csilla Elam
The fear of the Lord is one of the things we miss in our churches. That is why we divorce, that is why we bully, that is why we are violent, that is why we do not go and share Jesus with others, etc. God has become just the guy that helps us go to Heaven, but we do not really want Him to change our lives. And what really helps one change is the fear or reverence for the Lord.

Have you ever done something and then thought , " It's ok, I will do this and then ask God to forgive me"? Is that a true believer? Is that how a person that fears God should act or think? Of course not. But we do that a lot. We are playing games and then we wonder why our lives are going downhill and why prayers are not answered. I have come to learn that God really answers prayers of thos who fear Him. He really does intervene miraculosly most of the times for those who truly obey Him. I am not saying that He will not do it other times, but it is not that common. He likes to BE THERE for those who are obedient and fear Him.

Proverbs talks a lot about the fear of the Lord. The truth is that when we get on God's side, He will have our back. He aids the one who fears Him. Such a freedom comes with fearing the Lord. Also, a trust that He will take care of you also comes with it.
The Lord knows our hearts. I would like to ask you before you start wondering what my sins are or your friends ( I have done that), just take a moment and look at your own. No one will give an account for your sin, your life, and your choices, but you. The beauty of it is that God is right here to help you, to change you, to teach you to fear Him. Galatians 6 says that we should not be deceived; God will not be mocked. What we sow, we will reap.
It is time for us to really fall in love with Jesus, so much that we do not just go to church, but everything we do is because He tells us to do and we obey the written Word and do it without waiting on another word, when He already said it.

The fear of the Lord will teach us how to love others; it will teach us how to humble ourselves; it will open our eyes to a world in need of the Good News and that is that Christ paid for their sins so that if they believe, they will be brought to God into a family again. That is good news! I dont have to pay because He did. Now, it is true that we cannot continue in sin because sin cannot enter the Kingdom of God, but Jesus is our righteousness and if He lives in us, then of course He will not sin through me, right?

Let us fear the Lord! I do not know if Jesus is coming back this year or not. I do not care about those prophecies that say that, because Jesus Himself said He did not know the time. If He doesn't know, then how can I claim I do? If the Son of God is clueless, then how can we humans know it? I do know though that we will all leave this Earth one day and then we will ALL stand before the King and be judged for the good or bad we have committed. Not just the bad, but also good. This should pout fear into us.

How many of us live for ourselves? How many of us are afraid to let go of the wheel and really let Jesus take control? It is time or by the time we would want to let go and let Him take over, will be too late. Today, if we hear His voice, let us make a decision to obey. Let us not be like the people in the Old Covenant who constantly had a hard heart and a stiff neck and God was digusts with that. It disgusts God to see us rebell.

I believe the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. I am blessed to be the under shepherd of such a God-fearing church. Yes, if we obey Him, He will be there for us when we need Him. Great article and your other articles are fantastic. A good and godly woman of faith is rare these days. God bless you. :-)
