Do You Need a Guide to Beer?

A List of an Amateur Beer Snob's Guide to Beer

Karen Barnes
While I am not a beer drinker, I can see the interest in this type of project for those who like the taste of beer and the different types of beer available. Not only are there beers brewed by the major breweries around the world, there are usually a local brewery that can be added to the mix for beer drinkers around the world.

I know there is at least one beer brewery in Wichita, Kansas. It is located in the Old Town district of downtown Wichita. It is known as River City Brewing. I have had dinner in there with friends at one time. As I mentioned before, I am not a beer drinker, so I didn't try their beer. As I was looking at their website, since it has been as many years as the fellow who has written this guide that I have been in there, I noticed the website states they are not to be confused with two breweries with the same name in California and Florida. I know that is beside the point, maybe.

However, I guess he hasn't made it to Kansas, California or Florida to test the different beers at the three River City Breweries. That's okay though with me because if he happens across this article I am doing about his guide and his thoughts on beer, he could decide to do a second snob's guide to beer and check out a few other breweries across the country and the world. After all, there are new styles and flavored beers produced each year for beer drinkers.

So what does all that have to do with this list from this amateur beer snob's guide? It does have a little to do with his guide. In his guide he does do a tasting on some local breweries in the area of the United States he lives and has tasted in his travels.

JHarmon has provided his snob guide to beer through the alphabet. Each of his lists provides his thoughts on each of the beers. This venture of his has taken him about 12 years to do this pet project of his.

I have found his list of the 527 different beers quite intriguing. He has put a lot of effort and time into creating his list of beers he likes, dislikes, and on the fence about. For those of you who are looking for another beer connoisseur's thoughts about this subject, JHarmon can help you with selecting beers.
