One of the things that God has been pushing me to do this week is to redeem the time. We all know that in Ephesians chapter 5 it says that we need to redeem the time. I wondered what it really meant. We know about how Jesus redeemed us, which means He bought us back. Since we fell into sin, satan had us, and then Jesus came to die and rise from the dead to buy us back.
So, same goes for redeeming the time. It means to buy back the time. What does it look like to do that? So many times I wasted time. Time is precious. We do not know how long we will live. We do not know how long we have left to fulfill our destiny and to make a difference.
In 2005 I was diagnosed with cancer. Funny how instead of being so worried about a possible death, I was more worried about dying and facing Jesus and wondering if I had left a legacy. Did I leave anything behind? Did I share the Gospel with enough people? Did I make a difference in my family' s life? We probably heard about the old, small, lady who went to heaven and behind her there were many people lined up in a row. Those were the people she prayed for all her life. I wondered sometimes that when I die how many people will show at my funeral becuase I made a difference in their lives? We heard about Mother Theresa and how many people showed up there. I wonder about me?
Anyway, God promised me I would not die from cancer and He healed me and saved me from such a terrible disease. Satan wanted to take me out,but it wasn't God's plan. I am so grateful for that now, because now I am trying to redeem the time.
Redeeming the time for me is to double up my efforts and do what I could do in 2 hours in 1 hour. I am not saying that that is what redeeming time really means, but it sure means taking advantage of the time we have and quit wasting it and make a difference.
I cancelled my cable TV. It took too much of my time. I spend my time calling people on the phone, sharing with them or praying with them, hanging out with believers at mny house and praying for the issues currently going on in the world. And the most amazing thing God inspired me to do is to write letters to my daughter ( who is only 5 right now) and put them in a shoe box and take them eventually to a vault and lock them up until she is old enough to have them.
I figured, since the disciples died, they still live on, their words live on because they left us records: the gospels and epistles. Those are letters. When we need encouragement, we read one of those letters, right? Well, how amazing would it be then after I am gone, my daughter can open that box and take a letter out that her mommy wrote and read it and be encouraged? I write about different situations in my life and even give her little "sermonettes". Just like Paul did for us. I am planning on buying some cards and stickers to vary the look of this letters and even decorate some pages.
We never know when our time comes and you do not want to find yourself in a position where you realize you left nothing behind or you wish you had done this or that.
I do not want to sound morbid. Going home to Jesus is a reality. Everyone will die. Those after us will live on and we can still live on by leaving them something: especially truth and our experiences with God.
How much better will it be when that time comes for us to go, that we are ready and we can just tell our family, " I love you. There is a box I left for you with a few things".
Of course, we should leave more than a box. Memories, lessons we taught our kids, ideas for work and jobs, and maybe even some great friends that will be there for them that we trust.Ask God to show you what to leave behind.
Redeem the time. Take the time today to finish that CD God put in your heart. Post it on the internet. Give it away even. You never know who will be touched and changed even after you are gone. We need to not be selfish in thinking that we just need to make an impact only today and while we are here. Some of the people that make the most impact in my life are the onest that are dead now: Kathryn Kuhlman, Watchman Nee, John G. Lake, smith Wigglesworth, Esther from the Bible, Gladys Alyward, and more. See? They are all dead, yet their life with the Lord impacts me today.
So, write that book already that you have been wanting to write. Sit down and if you just write one chapter daily, in about 2 months it is done. Talk to your neighbor already about God. Tell those people already that are living in sin in the church that they need to change. Do it with love. But do it, if not you will give an account. Get a map, and pray for countries around the world. Teach your children to do the same. Put a sticker on the country you prayed for. My daughter used to loe doing that. I need to get a map, too. And there are so much more God put into your heart to do. Quit watching TV and do already what you have been wanting to do first. Learn that language already. Translate the Bible in a language you know. Visit that country . Volunteer already.
I pray that God will show you what to do and more than that, that you will do already what He put in your heart to do, but you have been putting it off for whatever reason.
I know I put links sometimes on my articles, and I forgot that you cannot click on them like that and work, but nevertheless then just copy and paste them because the websites exist and do work.
Let me know what you are going to do that you have been putting off....waiting on comments...

Post a CommentI have been putting off getting my masters...and its not where I thought it would be. I am helping to fill the pulpit of a pastor-less church & started on a M.A. in Seminary. I want to redeem the time, while it is still called today and have a great passion for reaching the lost sheep who need Jesus & take as many to heaven as I can! Love your work.
