Do You Know the Best Way to Find a Job?

Finding a Job Can Take Great Effort; Be Thorough with Your Job Search

Melvin Richardson
With the state of the economy finding a job is not easy. I am sure that many can attest to the fact this is an understatement. It's not uncommon for people to be unemployed for two years and even longer. The unemployment rate is somewhere near 9.4 percent on average. When you are unemployed for a substantial period of time your skills began to erode and finding a job becomes even more challenging.

People that have lost their jobs become depressed and anxious. Approximately 14.8 million people in the United States have become unemployed and another 1.2 million have completely stopped looking because of the challenges they face while looking for a job.

When you are about to begin your job search the best thing to do is prepare yourself mentally. It's a good idea to try and exercise on a regular basis. A brisk walk in the morning, or whenever the time is right for you, will help your mental attitude tremendously. Walking with someone can also help you keep a good mental attitude. If you start a rigorous exercise program make sure you check with your doctor first. Exercise will help keep your spirits up and help wipe out the depression.

As much as possible try to eat healthy which includes fruits, vegetables and plenty of water; of course this is easier said than done if the funds are low. Good healthy food will also help you maintain a positive attitude. Too much junk food can help contribute to depression and wipe out your desire to look for a job.

Update your resume. If you have been searching for a job, with no success, in your particular area of expertise, it may be time to apply for different positions. Your resume should be tailored towards the position you are applying for. Check your local paper for free classes regarding resume preparations. Put to or three resumes together which outline different positions. List any accomplishments or recognitions you may have under your belt, on your resume. Your resume should contain certain key words that employers are looking for.

Post your resume on some of the job search websites. There are many websites for you to post a resume which helps potential employers see your resume. Some allow you to post a professional profile that prospective employers can review.

Get out and start networking. Many people don't know that approximately 75 to 80 percent of jobs are found by networking. Some places you may try is the Chamber of commerce and Toastmasters. You can visit these clubs and start mingling. Have some business cards made with your name and what you do. Volunteering is another opportunity for you to network. You just never know who you might run into at a networking event.

Apply with some of the temporary agencies. Many jobs have started out as temporary positions and eventually turned into permanent jobs. When you go out on temporary assignments always give it your best effort. The employer will be making note of your performance.

Use the social networking sites. You can post your profile on some of the social networking sites. This could help you get more exposure than you can imagine. Some helpful sites are Facebook and linkedin.

Go back to school. Now may be the perfect time for you to go back to school and upgrade your skills. Find out what it is you want to do. You may want to head in a completely different direction from your present course.

Turn your hobby into a business. It would take me forever to mention the number of people who have turned their hobby into a full time business. What do you like to do in your spare time? For some its photography, selling on Ebay, writing, cooking, or even completing home repairs. You may be surprised at the amount of money you can make when you are passionate about something.
