Who doesn't love spring flowers?

Daffodils are one of the sweetest bulb flowers that we get to enjoy each spring. For almost ten years, New York City has had the Daffodil Project. Ever heard of it? The project is, in a sense, a living memorial to the lives lost on 9/11.

The citywide effort attempts to beautify each neighborhood by planting the delicate flowers and is led by the New Yorkers for Parks along with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. This project is not only a tribute to the victims of 9/11 and their families, but also a way to revitalize and unite the community.

Every fall, thousands upon thousands of daffodil bulbs are distributed by the Bulb Brigades (volunteers) to residents in all 5 boroughs of the city. The bulbs are free, but there is a catch. Anyone who accepts them has to cpmmit to planting them in some public space.

This year, more than 500,000 daffodil bulbs will be provided by B&K Flowerbulbs. Over 20,000 New Yorkers have responded to participate in the project.

Since the launch of the Daffodil Project, about 4 million of the flowers have been planted throughout the city.
