Do You Know Who Legedu Naanee Is?!

He's an NFL Player, and He's Gonna Sue Your Ass!

San Diego Chargers wide receiver Legedu Naanee was one of a slew of NFL players finding themselves on the wrong side of the law lately.

According to the police report, Naanee apparently came upon an active crime scene in downtown Indianapolis-the aftermath of a shooting that left one person dead and another injured -at around 3:00 a.m. on February 12, smelled of alcohol, mouthed off to an officer, and refused to leave, despite being repeatedly told to do so by police.

A brief skirmish and a face full of pepper spray later, Naanee was on his way to jail for Public Intoxication and Resisting Law Enforcement.

At some point, he allegedly told the police, "Do you know who I am? I'm an NFL player, and I'm going to sue your ass!"

"Do you know who I am?" That's classic. The arrogance and narcissism is astounding.

Um, Legedu: you're a back-up wide receiver for the San Diego Chargers. You're in Indianapolis. San Diego is 2,100 miles that-a-way. It's 3:00am, and two people have just been shot, one fatally. The police are a little preoccupied. And that's when you decide to throw your "fame" around?

I'm an avid football fan, and you're barely-just barely-on my radar.

You were drafted in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft out of Boise State. Your total career stats: 63 receptions for 746 yards and three touchdowns. You didn't even start a game until 2009 (one start). This past season was your best so far: 23 receptions for 371 yards and a touchdown in nine starts.

That's about two games' worth for Reggie Wayne. And we do know who Reggie Wayne is.

I'm not terribly convinced that, in the same situation as the Indianapolis officers, San Diego police officers would even know who you are.

Of course, now we all know who Legedu Naanee is. I suppose that's one way to gain some fame.

Naanee is being charged right now with Resisting Law Enforcement, Class A Misdemeanor, which carries a fine of up to $5,000 and up to a year in jail. He's also being charged with Public Intoxication, Class B Misdemeanor, which carries a fine of up to $1,000 and up to 180 days in jail.

He was released from the Marion County Jail later in the day on February 12 on his own recognizance with a Pre-Trial Conference scheduled for March 2.
