If you have ever suffered from lower back pain you are not alone in fact it's the most common cause of job-related disability and the leading cause for missed work. In fact Americans spend at least 50 billion each year to treat lower back pain and now a radio frequency using heat is literally burning the pain away.

The process is called radio frequency lesioning and is an outpatient procedure for treating pain, most commonly used Fluoroscopy room. A numbing medication is injected followed by a radiofrequency needle at the site once the needle tip is positioned correctly and electrode is inserted into the needle. Through the use of electrical stimulation to correct nerve is identified by the patient with a team willing or buzzing sensation. What comes to lower back pain the nerves that are causing the pain are non-motor function hurts so using the radiofrequency will destroy these nerves but not cause any motor frequency problems. Doctors will first isolate the nerve that are causing the pain then under light sedation and all electrical probe is inserted into the tissue the tip of the probe is heated to destroy the nerve. The procedure used to require several different probes but with the new treatment only one probe needs to be inserted. The whole process takes a mere eight minutes.

Because the radiofrequency actually destroys the nerves that are causing the pain is considered permanent and only needs to be done one time. This is an outpatient procedure so the patient does not have to stay in the hospital they'll be home in as little as three hours. The radiofrequency procedure is considered safe there is a slight risk of bleeding and infection and a few patients experience muscle pains and spasms for a few days after, but all feel that this is a small price to pay to be relieved of their lower back pain.

Most lower back pain problems go away after 2 to 3 days lower back pain is only considered chronic that lasts more than three months. When physical therapy and medication stopped working it might be time to look into radio frequency lesioning.
