Do Moisturizers Work or Are You Wasting Your Money?

The skin care industry is big, big business. Billions are spent buying topical moisturizers and promises of the fountain of youth. But do these products really work?

To some degree they do give the appearance of a smoother, softer, younger looking skin. It is only for appearance sake though. These moisturizers do aid only in softening the outer dead skin cells that have yet to be fluffed off. As we age, these dead skin cells become harder to exfoliate by themselves. The body's regenerating process slows down and thus the dead skin cells are not pushed out fast enough.

We learn from our high school biology class, that the skin is the largest organ of the body. The skins purpose is to protect the skeletal and organs beneath from harmful bacteria and disease. Unless of and injury or break in the skin, none of these toxins can enter the body. Without our skin we would surely die from bacteria and disease.

So with this knowledge, why would we believe that putting something on our skin is going to penetrate enough to make it healthy? Any product that could penetrate our skin would definitely cause an infection and disease. Yet, we kept buying into the dream or promise of the fountain of youth in a jar.

Optimal health is the best way to have beautiful skin. You can moisturize your skin from the inside out by living a healthier lifestyle. Environmental toxins, smoking, drinking alcohol, lack of exercise, and improper eating are the contributing factors to prematurely aging skin. Nothing externally can reverse these conditions. That is other than a plastic surgeon and a lot of money.

Heredity also is a key factor as to the appearance of your skin. There is little that can be done about our genetics and our predisposition of the appearance of our skin. Different nationalities have different skin traits. Where ever you ancestors are from and the condition of there skin is more than likely how your skin is going to appear. This also determines your skins abilities to handle the suns rays. The sun rays that are so damaging to some skin types are not as dangerous to other types of skin.

So are these moisturizers a waste of money or do they work? I guess the answer would be that they do work to moisturize the outer layers where the dead skin tissue is at, but they will never repair the damage of the skin. They are great for appearance sake. Once the skin is cleansed, it is cleansed of the moisturizer as well.

To answer the question in regards to moistures, don't waste a lot of money on promises of expensive moisturizers, when cheap inexpensive brands work just as well. In fact, Crisco and Vaseline serve the same purpose for a whole lot less money.
