With the 2011-12 NFL season happening, all that can be asked is about those that are Cleveland Browns fans. Will they have something to cheer? Make no mistake, they run the city of Cleveland and have it in the palm of their hands since it has been labeled a football town. However, they have been one of the most embarrassing franchises since 1999. It is almost as if their role has been to be the team that is designed to make others look better than they are.
With a new coaching staff, one can only presume that it is likely to see the team having a built-in excuse for a losing season. This isn't to say that Mangini was the answer but changing coaches at the rate that they do is rather embarrassing to say the least. For them, it's going to have to be about finally playing like a team for a change instead of just a bunch of guys that don't care. Better yet, a team that just goes in defeated all the time. Chances they are, they're going to lose because of that.
There are some potential players that could be good for them in fairness. Joe Thomas has been solid and has been to the Pro Bowl every year. They did pick up a solid center and possibly some solid players like Joe Haden, T.J. Ward, and Colt McCoy. Speaking of McCoy, he's going to be the starting Quarterback and needs to be successful so that they can finally put that situation to rest.
As a whole, it does look like they have some players but in the grand scheme of things, it's not enough. They have been changing coaches a bit too frequently and for any team to be a serious contender, changing a lot is not going to work. The coach fairy doesn't exist and if it did, it sure isn't going to touch the Browns whatsoever.
To get rid of that role, they must find something and be consistent. That means doing something positive for a change of pace. Until they finally show the world that they are not going to be the resident punching bag of the league, it will mean nothing whatsoever. Sure, there is a chance of having good players but that's not enough. It's going to be building some team chemistry.
The upcoming season should have no expectations of being a winning franchise. They are in the toughest division in the NFL arguably but that's still no excuse to not be better than what they are. In fact, expect them to be what they have been for quite some team, a franchise that just can't do anything right.
