Do Not Rush Your Relationships

There are a lot of things to consider before you make any drastic moves in a relationship. Often times the things that are done in the heat of passion are the thing we most regret. Moving in with your partner, marriage or even getting engaged are big steps that should not be taken lightly.

You're at your boyfriends all the time, you sleep there almost every night, you have a toothbrush there and even some of your laundry is mixed in with his. You're probably thinking "why don't I save myself the rent and just move all my stuff in here?" It could be a great idea! However, there are some things that you should seriously consider before taking that step. Have you ever thought about how much you value your personal space? Many of us don't until we loose it! You may spend every night at your partner's place, but doesn't it feel good to get back to your own bed?

Think about where you really are in this relationship, people can sleep together every night and still not be ready to actually live together, be responsible for things together or even share things! If you're considering moving in with your partner the first thing you should do is make a list of the potential problems you may have together and then think of possible solutions and compromises. It would be a great idea if the two of you did this together.

Maybe you already live with your boyfriend or girlfriend and you're thinking about getting engaged or even married. Here's what a lot of co-habiting couples think "we've lived together for 2 years, why not take it to the next step?" Being together for long time may mean that you're ready for a higher level of commitment. However, you may not be, people stay in relationships for many reasons and not all of them are because of love. If you're thinking of taking the next step, then take some time to evaluate your true feelings before you do.

Whether it's proposing or simply getting hitched both eventually lead to marriage and should not be taken lightly. There's more to marriage than just love, it's a social contract. The main cause of divorce today is financial reasons. Are you ready to share these responsibilities with your partner? Just because you're not ready for marriage doesn't necessarily mean that you're not in love, but taking things too fast is just like a death sentence for a relationship.

In today's world it's so easy to mess up a good thing by taking too fast a track. Take time to get to know and understand your partner. Figure out if you both want the same things out of life. The most important things in any successful relationship are love and trust, if you have that almost anything else can be worked out. Anything less will never last and eventually end up causing both of you a lot of pain.
