Do-nothing Energy Bill Proves Big Oil Runs Congress

What the Fake "Energy Bill" COULD HAVE Been

A real energy bill COULD HAVE mandated production of plug-in Electric cars.

It COULD HAVE forced Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards to rise initially to 30 mpg by 2010, then by 5 mpg each year. That's EASILY ATTAINABLE with new cars, if the auto makers wanted to do so. CAFE is a fleet average; Detroit could make four (4) 10 mpg gas-guzzling Hummers and one plug-in EV1, which was EPA rated at "140 miles per gallon gas equivalent" for a combined fleet average of more than 35 mpg. This could have been done in 1990, or before, except for purchased lawmakers beholden to Big Oil and ancillary industries such as what's left of Detroit.

The bill could have mandated the plug-in hybrid. There are examples on the road, built by volunteer engineers, of plug-in hybrids that can travel 100 miles in EV-only mode (no gasoline, running on batteries alone) but which also have a small engine-generator to generate electric power for longer trips. This is called a "Plug-in (serial) Hybrid EV with 100 mile batteries", or "PHEV100" for short. One test version, using a trailer genset, is on http://PHEV100.com. The PHEV100 can get (according to http://SetAmericaFree.org ) up to 500 miles for each gallon of gasoline (or bio-diesel) burned. For each TEN (10) gas-guzzling 10 mpg SuBurpodon, Yuckon, Taco, Dingali, Tailblazer or Putzfinder, just sell one PHEV100 for a combined fleet mpg of over 50 mpg.

That COULD HAVE been done TODAY. So it's just Detroit, and entrenched Rep. Dingell (D-MI), who are fighting to destroy our energy independence for no discernable reason.

Except, we know, if they really offered PHEV100 for sale, they would be in high demand, and Detroit would not sell many gas-guzzlers -- and their oil company sponsors would be upset as the price of oil fell toward the cost of producing it -- $6 per barrel.

Republicans are fighting for continued oil industry SUBSIDIES. Yes, it seems incredible, that these prostitutes could be in charge of the public welfare. Yes, they are political prostitutes, who sell their souls (and our well-being) for CASH contributions to their sordid campaigns.

A real energy bill COULD HAVE imposed a new, strict energy tax, taking all the money above, for example, $50/bbl. If the vertically-integrated oil monopolies push the price of a barrel of oil above that trigger point, the rest of the money, or half of it, should go to the IRS. That would put a crimp in their money river!

This bill COULD HAVE created a positive attitude for solar power, by requiring plug-in cars, and forcing new construction to have a 2.5 kW solar rooftop system. It just takes leadership, and the oil industry has sucked the guts out of lawmakers like a giant spider squatting on the Congress -- and on America's future.

Plug-in cars make solar power self-financing, even without subsidies or tax breaks: the money formerly spent on gasoline goes to pay off the solar rooftop system, a reality that those with plug-in cars prove http://SealBeach.org .

So, really, the Democrats are as prostituted to Big Oil as the Republicans, they just make a bit more noise and fuss about jumping into bed with the likes of CHEVRON and EXXON, representing several of the Rockefeller Standard Oil Trust entities.

Anyone who imagines that the oil market is not a monopoly, think again.

And Rep. John Dingell should be ashamed, deeply ashamed, for pandering so openly to America's enemies.
