Do PETA's Naked Protest Tactics Work?

Stephanie Manning
Do PETA's naked protest tactics work? I would have to say NO! Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs in what is right and what is wrong. However, in that same statement I could easily bring up the issue that standing in public nude could be very offensive and to tell you the truth I would be very offended. In my honest opinion it makes them look not only desperate but quite very irrational as well!

I am strongly against animal abuse and neglect! To see something like that makes me very upset, and believe me, I am the first one to say something to a bad pet owner who left their dog in the car in the middle of summer. However, I personally do not feel that its a crime to eat a cow, a pig, a deer or anything else that God has provided us to eat. I understand that they have their beliefs and their values, and I can respect that. I may not agree with them but I do respect them. However, we, as Chicken Eaters, don't go around holding signs or standing buck-naked in the middle of Time Square to promote 'chicken legs and ham hocks' and neither should they.

While their beliefs are important to them, I do believe that they could go about promoting their organization in a more respectful way. I think their desire to stand naked in public is not only distasteful but morally wrong. I can tell you write now that if one of their members came up to me trying to talk to me about their organization I would politely listen and then say no thank you! But if I were in public and saw them streaking through the streets, especially with my child I would be livid.

I strongly believe that if it's illegal for citizens to be naked on the street is should also be illegal for protestors to be naked on the street! Therefor, the next time they are out on the street stark-naked protesting for us not to east Bessie the cow, they should be arrested. I know that if you or I were to stand out on the street naked promoting what we believed in we would be arrested.

Hmmm I wonder if I should shed my clothes and run to the corner and begged the President to lower gas prices, or bring the Pledge of Allegiance back in to the schools along with prayer, if I would work! Oh I better not, they would end up arresting me for doing the same thing that PETA is doing but for a different cause!

there r organizations made on moral aspects ... which r against sex/nudity in public... protesting against protests, questionable protests etc. destroy your message and move the dimension of ppls thought...so whats the use....if you sincerely trying to put your message on, you should always be careful about the effect of message on public in a broader way...
PETA should rethink about their message medium...

IS THERE ANY NEED FOR THE PEOPLE TO GO NAKED FOR PETA??
WATS THE USE THERE ARE MANY ANIMALS WHICH ARE STILL IN DANGER SO ITS BETTER TO ACT SERIOUSLY RATHER MAKING PEOPLE NAKED AND MAKING A SCENE IN PUBLIC.

I don't have a problem with the nudity, but I don't think it is an effective motivator to inspire people to fight for animals' welfare. Alicia Silverstone is apparently the newest naked spokesperson for PETA. Good questions in your thoughtful article.

by protesting in the buff, they further alienate people who don't believe in their cause... but they are too passionate about their own cause to stop and think.

OMG Barefoot! You're almost as obnoxious as a naked PETA!

Not everyone believes in evolution, and some people believe in the tooth fairy. That doesn't mean they are accurate.

Nothin' wrong with being naked. Nothin' wrong with eatin' meat. Can't we all just get along? You're an a$$ barefoot. I used to think you were cool.

LOL, omg, Barefoot, that was just WRONG!! rofl! You are too much!

Jack, not everyone believes in evolution either, so keep that in mind... although I have met a few *sses in my lifetime!

Since PETA takes up for the animals that most of us eat, who takes up for the plants the PETA people eat? Plants have feelings too. Oh and plant life sustains animal life. Anyways, great article, Stephanie.

I just don't like PETA, and thats a lot coming from a green living, enivironmental studies bio major, who is an on again off again vegetarian. but not because of the ethics involved in eating animals. I love eating cows. I never thought about protesting anything naked, but I agree PETA does get away with something others would be arrested for, just because they are PETA.
