Do you remember when television sit-coms were actually funny and the only violence was on westerns? The only curse words are television were "darn it" and that was pushing it. If there was any violence it was limited to one shooting an episode, and then it did not show it and go into graphic detail.
Do you remember when you could walk down your street or run in a park and not have to worry about getting raped, shot, stabbed, or mugged? People used to wave at and greet each other instead of robbing them.
Do you remember when children were respectful to their parents or they got a trip behind to wood shed (and then ate supper standing up)? Children knew how to work and did not worry about playing on a computer or a video game.
Do you remember when there were a lot few car accidents because people knew how to drive? They did not have cell phones and typewriters were not made to text message (plus they were too hard to carry around).
Do you remember when the first person you would turn to if you needed help was your neighbor? They were always there to help you with almost anything. Try that today and you probably would get shot for trespassing if you tried to get to their house.
Do you remember when families meant something to each other? One brother was not after the other brother's wife. Mom and dad never cheated on each other. And the word "love" was said every day in the household.
Do you remember when a friend was a friend? There was no backstabbing, telling of secrets, and slandering and gossiping. A friend was someone you could depend on (to not steal your boyfriend or husband).
Do you remember when a letter was written with a pen and paper and sent by US Mail? Hum, now what is a pen and paper? Computers were used only in businesses and identity theft had never been heard of. Computer hacking was if someone got mad enough at the computer to hack it into pieces. And to get to government secrets you had to get through a wall of people with guns instead of a firewall.
Do you remember when a human life was valuable? The taking of a human life actually involved some sort of punishment. There were no hung juries just hung criminals.
If you think about it now, things in the olden days seemed a lot better. However, we are living in the now days and must play with the hand we are dealt. To be honest, the now days are not all that horrible if you make them good.
In conclusion, playing the "do you remember" game is fun for a while. But do you remember that eventually you will have to come back to reality.
