Do You Remember the Time?

Natasha Benjamin

Two years ago today, we physically lost the King of Pop. On June 25, 2009, the death of Michael Jackson was confirmed by the Los Angeles County Coroner and once the news hit media outlets, family, friends and fans everywhere mourned the loss of a musical genius, entertainer and philanthropist.

Jackson had touched the lives of so many through his lyrical work and philanthropy and that truly resonated as I watched two years ago, Parisians (those who couldn't even speak English) gather under the Eiffel tower for a dedication to this Pop icon. Jackson's work was not limited to just those in the States, but those near and far who could at least understand what he was talking about socially and politically.

Jackson informed us that because of the color of our skin, America didn't care about us. But despite that, he wanted us to take a closer look at the person staring in the mirror and make that change. Through his music, Jackson told us all to work to make this world a better place.

His music created an impact within the industry as artists like Nas, De La Soul & Snoop Dogg sampled his work. His swift foot movements molded the moves of Usher and Chris Brown, as they looked to Jackson as their role model. Because of the level of his artistry, his talent to please the masses and his concern for change, his music will continue to withstand the test of time.

Before his death, Michael Jackson was preparing for a world tour. Although he is physically gone, his legacy lives on and Cirque du Soleil is putting on "Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour"; a theatrical show of the one and only. Today, as many of us continue to remember this legendary man, know that Charged.fm will allow you to re-live the moments that made so many of us fall in love with the King.
