Do the Right Thing All the Time

Day 47 - a Year with God

Marilyn Quinn
Doing the right thing; where do I start? We all know we should be doing the right thing. Some of us do the right thing more often than not. How many of us are doing the right thing all the time, without excuses?

There are times when doing the right thing just seems too difficult. Maybe we are being criticized for it. It could be easier to just let one go and not stand up and do what is really right.

We should be doing the right thing at all times. No matter how hard it is. No matter the consequences. Without fear and in total faith, we should step up and be accountable.

When you know in your heart what the right path is and the right course of action, don't be swayed by others' opinions or preferences. What others think of you doesn't altar the reality of what is right.

Being a person of faith sometimes requires bravery beyond what we feel capable of. This is why we have to be strong in our faith and well-read in our scripture. The Bible is the ultimate instruction guide for how to live a right life.

In fact, there is scripture that addresses not doing the right thing.

"Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it." James 4:17

"For it would be better for them not to have knows the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment handed on to them." 2 Peter 2:21

So, we should be doing the right thing; it is a sin to know the right thing and not do it. But we should be doing the right thing for the right reason also. We shouldn't be doing it to impress others with our acts or to bring glory to ourselves.

"He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake." Psalm 23:3

"He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation."
Psalm 24: 4-5

So, do the right thing, for the right reason; and you may be persecuted and bad mouthed anyway. It happens. It has been happening since biblical times and before , or else there wouldn't be verses that address that very thing.

"Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse." Romans 12:14

"...if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you and example, that you should follow in his steps. He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth." 1 Peter 2: 20-24

"Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven..." Matthew 5: 10-12
