Do You Still Yahoo?

I Prefer Google Myself

MikeBabjak
During the Internet boom of the late 90's, the one search engine that probably all of us used was Yahoo. It's deep database of websites, ever widening features and catch TV spots made most users think that if you wanted to search on the web, Yahoo was it. They never knew about HotBot, AltaVista and the likes. I'll admit, I even had a Yahoo email account growing up and still keep one to this day, but only because they require it for Fantasy Football and Fantasy Golf!

I have since moved on however, in the early 2000's, Google came into the main stream. It's as simple as can be, no gadgets, buttons or ads to annoy you when you get to the site, no muss no fuss, thats what everyone one wants in this instant gratification world right? I began using Google for that reason and that reason alone. It was very helpful to know that there was still a web company out there that believed that the simplest approach could still be the best approach. Google not only offers what I feel are more relevant and deeper searches but also searches phone numbers better as well. Don't you hate getting a call from a number you don't know and nobody leaves you a message!?!

Then there was Gmail. Yes, Gmail. If you have not tried it, you need to open an account right now! Don't even finish the article, just go to mail.google.com and get started! Why? Space! Almost 6GB's of space! Yes Gigabytes! You literally will never need to throw away an email again! This is perfect for students, professionals and the like who need to refer back to old emails but ran into the problem of running out of space to keep them all!

The registration process is quite simple, it takes only a couple of minutes and you are off and running. I have been using Gmail now for about 4 years and it has by far been the best mail application I have ever used. Even better than Apples Mac Mail. Now, it is not perfect however, they don't have an option for folders yet. This is the one big issue I have with the service. I cold have tens of thousands of emails and no real, clear way to organize them. They allow you to "star" them to highlight the important ones, buts thats it. It's trash, sent, spam, and draft features are as good as any also.

So thats a short review on Gmail from Google. Give it a try, its quick, free, and its got a ton of space!
