Do You Need Surf Lessons?

Start Riding Waves Today by Taking Lessons

For some of us learning to surf can be a natural process. I have seen people come to the beach and get a few hours of instruction and they are standing up and riding waves the same day. Certainly surf lessons would help almost any surfer get off to a fast start in the water. A good way to find a decent surf instructor is to ask around the beach where you plan to surf. Many times you can find beginning surfers that have had lessons from a particular surfer or surf camp and they really excel. So do not be shy ask around and you may find out that some of the better surfers started off taking surf lessons.

It not only takes practice for most of us to learn to surf but plenty of it. It also takes patience determination and persistence. I had to ride 100s of waves before I was able to feel relaxed and natural on a surfboard. If I had attended a surf school for even a few days, I would have saved myself plenty of grief. So I do recommend taking surfing lessons, if you are serious about learning to surf. You will save plenty of time and effort if you spend the money to learn to surf from an experienced surf instructor.

The most important factor for me in surfing is preparation. If you do not prepare your self mentally and physically for the task at hand you may not do as well. You might not catch as many waves as you think you need to. You may pull a muscle or become cramped up. I recommend that you stretch out before surfing and drink extra water. Keeping hydrated and limber. Two simple things that can improve your performance in the water and out of the water for that matter. Staying hydrated and limber can also help prevent injuries.

After I had been surfing for over 20 years I had the pleasure of surfing with some professional surfers that were more than willing to share some of their knowledge with me. After a few short hours of them telling me how I could improve, I was able to catch more waves and gain more speed down the line just from their simple suggestions. So it was easy for me to see how getting experienced instruction can help your surfing. No matter how long you have been surfing and no matter how proficient you are.

Learning to surf doesn't have to be painful and plenty of times I have seen beginning surfers make mistakes that would have been totally avoidable with a little experienced help. If you want to get up and surfing usually on the same day get some instruction. Come to the beach prepared to surf. Make sure you have had enough rest, surfing takes focus as I have said. Come with the attitude that you will succeed. Take some surf lessons even you you have to take more than one lesson its worth it believe me.
