With today's hustle and bustle lifestyle, where time is at a premium and work inundates us to the point that family time is placed on the back burner, many families turn to their grocers frozen foods section for meal alternatives. Ah, I can taste it now, preservatives, fat, sodium and many other chemicals that I couldn't spell or pronounce and could only be associated with some avongotical experiment gone wrong. Alternative to this and you have a nice home cooked meal made from scratch. Do you have what it takes to prepare flavorful and colorful meals on a personable level in the comfort of your own kitchen?

Anyone can place a frozen entree in the oven or microwave but why do you have to when their are options to avoiding this form of crime and punishment. Not only are preparing your own meals from scratch rewarding, better tasting and albeit, more healthy but you can also incorporate that forgotten family time into the equation. For those of you with kids, getting them involved with the meal preparation offers not only quality family time but instills a sense of value and importance and can be fun as well.

Time involvement doesn't have to be an issue nor does a labor intensive regimen need to be initiated. There are ways of simplifying and reducing some of the constraints and excuses that many would search for and place to revert to the comforting way out...frozen and fast foods.

OK, so let's take a look at what we can do to save time while reduce the possible stress involved with scrounging up the ingredients needed for the meal. Planning and preparation IN ADVANCE are key. Prepare a menu for the week ahead of time. This enables you to ensure that you have the ingredients ahead of time instead of having to run out to the store for the forgotten list of necessary ingredients. This step reduces the likelihood of reverting to the frozen food and fast food alternative you are trying to avoid while saving money as well.

Next step is preparation where, often times, you can save time and cut corners by performing some step ahead of time. Preparing liquid or dry ingredients the day before or if you have to soak, set up or chill part of the meal for an extended period of time, it makes perfect sense to be proactive rather than reactive. This helps to save time and makes you more efficient as you can streamline your energy and focus your attention on ensuring your meal is coming along as it should instead of stressing over time constraints and logistics.

Another pertinent step that can be initiated to reduce time involvement among other constraints is to browse through the myriad of cook books on the market as well as the Food Networks on line site which features many wonderful chefs and culinary gurus whose knowledge and skills can steer you on course to preparing a successful and delicious meal. By being able to see the ingredients, time and effort involved with the preparation of each entree you can use the process of elimination in determining what you will make. It is also good practice to check recipes to ensure that your family will eat the dish or isn't made with possible ingredients leading to allergic reactions, IE. dairy products and nuts.

You see, you don't have to be a culinary genius with a PHD in food preparation to prepare a delectable, healthy and delicious meal that doesn't have to deplete your bank account or consume all your valuable time. Just take a few precautionary steps and you'll be rewarded with an awesome home cooked meal that is far and above that found in frozen or fast foods.
