Do You Have What it Takes to Work at Home?

Dawn Conklin
Working at home has many benefits, especially if you have kids. This allows more time for the kids, nobody else babysitting and raising the kids for you. But it takes a lot of discipline too. Most people think that if they work from home they can find something that they work an hour or two make plenty of money and call it a day. When they don't make a lot of money real quick they end up giving up. A lot of that mindset, I think, has to do with some of the get rich quick scams that claim you can get rich working an hour a day. That is not how it works, to make money you must put time into it. Do not fall for scams that tell you differently.

You have to make a schedule to follow when you are working from home. When you work outside of the home, you have a work schedule that you must follow or else you risk getting fired. The same applies to working at home except you are the boss so it will be harder to get fired. Managing your time is the most important part of your success, no matter what business you start or how you choose to make money at home.

Once you know exactly what you want to do to make money, you must sit down and make your schedule. An example of mine is:
6:30 wake-up, get dressed and get the kids ready for school
7:40 leave for the bus stop
8:15 check up on the stock market early trading and look for news releases
9:00 check the traffic to my blogs from the day before and respond to comments
9:30 see where the stock market opens at
10:00 do some advertising for my blogs and talk with other blog authors
11:30 take a lunch this varies in time, half hour to an hour
12:30 write articles to be published
2:30 check on stocks again
3:00 leave to go to the bus stop and get the kids

Now this is just an example, it changes from day to day but I have been working at home for almost five years now so I am pretty good with routine even though I change my schedule from day to day. I usually take little breaks in between and go outside for five minutes to have a cigarette. This is very important to make a schedule and stick to it. You need discipline to work at home or you will not be productive enough to make any money. It is too easy to get side tracked in doing non productive things if you do not stick to a schedule. This is the most important step in working at home.
