Do You Think Children Should Be Allowed at Funerals?

JL
"I was fortunate enough not to have anyone close who died when I was young.
The first funeral I attended was at the age of 26.

Before then I had experience with the lose of animals.
My animals were my everything, when they die, a little part of me died as well.
But, no one understood. And they still don't.
But I was around 8 or 9 at that time.
No one took the time to explain to me why things like that happen.
It was especially hard when my colt died.
I found him early in the morning in front of the barn door.

Anyway, my children have attended the funeral of there grandparents.
I did not force them, they wanted to go themselves.
I think it is good to let the child decide.
At the same time, I listened and answered there questions the best I could.
They were good about it.

I think it is important to let the children realize that death is also a part of
life. It may not sound very nice, but it is a fact. And we have to learn to deal with things like this.

So I would say, yes."

Good advice...if, as John says, the child can handle it! Some can and some...well they just are not ready!

I think it depends on the child and his or her age. Some children can handle it, some cannot.

I would agree with you. Children need to understand that death is a part of life. Wonderful article. :-)
