Do You Need Vitamins If You Are Less Active?

Sarah Rachel
Every single person needs vitamins whether they are very active or more sedentary. The reason why this is the case is because just sleeping requires nutrients. Even if you are not an active person or if you are just active once in a while, you still need vitamins to protect your cells and maintain good health. However, if you begin to take vitamins you will notice that you have more energy and you may want to start becoming more active. Physical activity and exercise promotes better health.

Brain function

There are several vitamins that play a dynamic role in improving brain function. B-vitamins in particular are very powerful because they protect nerve tissue, and brain cells. B-vitamins also promote energy and overall well-being. Foods that are rich in B-vitamins are meat, nuts, eggs, grains and rice.

Omega three fatty acids are also very helpful in improving brain function. High levels of omega-3 fatty acids can be found in fish oils such as cod liver oil, and salmon oil. Omega three fats protect cells and reduce inflammation in the body.

Aging

Vitamins slow down the aging process because they prevent free radical damage. Free radicals are natural by-products of living. Free radicals are caused by environmental pollution, diet, and other lifestyle factors. Vitamins fight against free radical damage by protecting cells, and stomping out free radical activity. The top vitamins that reduce the effects of free radicals are vitamins A., C, D, and E.

Mood

Vitamins also play an important role in regulating our moods. How we feel and how we respond to certain things in our lives are a direct result of our diet, and the vitamins that we intake. Vitamins that improve mood are vitamin C, vitamin E, and Omega three fatty acids.

There also certain herbs that have been shown to have a powerful effect on how we feel. St. John's wort is an herb used by many natural doctors to treat mood disorders and depression. B-vitamins are also very helpful when it comes to maintaining a good mood because of the effect they have on the nervous system.

Energy

If you are less active you still need vitamins in order to maintain energy. After all you still need to get out of bed, feed yourself or go to work. Even if you think your less active than most people you might be surprised to find out that you do more than you think. Just talking or walking to your car takes energy.

B-vitamins and iron help to increase energy. Protein also plays an important role in energy levels. Foods that are rich in protein are meat, beans, eggs, and nuts. A good source of vegetarian protein is Spirulina. Spirulina is a sea vegetable that is also rich in other vitamins and minerals.

Immune system

Even less active people still need to maintain health. Our immune system is our defense mechanism to protect us from foreign invaders like viruses and bacteria that make us very sick and miserable. When our immune system is weak our body becomes less efficient, and our life span is shortened. Vitamins that can help improve immune function are vitamin C, E, and especially vitamin D3.
