Do You Want a Manicure that Lasts Two Weeks Without Having Fake Nails?

Nicole Lang
Have you ever had a manicure and thought to yourself why bother? Generally speaking they last at most a week and that is if you are not doing anything with your hands and applying topcoat everyday. For most of us we are lucky if they last three days before the polish starts to chip away.

So how then can you get a manicure without getting fake nails that looks like it is freshly done for two weeks straight no matter what you do? The answer is simple. Gel polish. For years I have bitten my nails or abused them in other ways by getting acrylic nails. One day I decided that I wanted my own natural nails. One major problem with this is that if my nails do not look nice I bit them or pick at them and they are never going to look nice with me doing this. It was a never-ending cycle.

Then to my delight I found a new nail place at a real salon with a manicurist who was concerned with making sure that my nails were what I wanted. My own and looking good enough that I would not be tempted to bite them or have acrylics done to them. She informed me about gel polish.

Some of the advantages of gel polish include:

1) Gel polish manicures can last up to two weeks and sometimes even longer depending on how fast your nails grow.

2) Gel polish acts as a strengthener for your natural nails without using damaging acrylic.

3) Nails go under a UV light to set the polish and once you are done there is no chance of dinging the polish to leave marks.

4) A large variety of colors are available.

5) A gel polish manicure takes no longer than a regular manicure.

6) Nails look shiny and healthy.

To remove the gel polish the manicurist can file the polish off or soak them in a special soak. The only downfall to gel polish is that on occasion (always at or after the two week mark) the polish can begin to peel. This does not happen all the time and if you can muster enough self-control to not pick at them it usually does not present a problem.

Not all salons carry gel polish but if you are interested in beautifully natural nails that look like they just had a fresh manicure it is worth the time finding a salon that does.
