Do You Want to Postpone Dying?

Suspended Animation May Be Just the Ticket

Mike Oberg
I recently opened my mail to find an unusual conference notification - from a company called Suspended Animation, Inc. The goal of suspended animation is to freeze your body and store it until a better future is available. This is typically for someone who is dying of a currently-incurable condition, in the hopes that a cure will be available in the future.

The brochure describes the various topics presented at the conference, such as: rapid cooling through the lungs, long term storage of cryo-preserved (i.e. frozen) biological materials (that could be your body!), issues with reversing the freezing process (with "little" problems like the current use of toxic chemicals to replace the water in your body), preserving whole bodies (this is the Cadillac solution, really, since reassembling a bunch of organs gets messy!), and the use of nanorobots to repair cryopreservation damage.

You might have anticipated the issues mentioned above as associated with freezing and reanimating your body, but here's one you may have overlooked: "Wealth Preservation for Revival, Rejuvenation, and Reintegration Into Society"! Yes, you not only need to freeze your body, you need to freeze your assets (and you know you have a lot or you wouldn't be considering this process in the first place)!

Although some of the details sound ambitious and a little crazy, this is just proof of how much we need to invent a time machine. It would be so much simpler to just step into the machine and browse the future to find what you are looking for! However, if freezing is the way to preserve your body for the future, I guess I will just have to wait until Hell freezes over! But for those with the money and the desire, you can check out their company and conference at the link below. Oh! Did I mention that this company is in Florida?

  • People in Florida may be freezing soon (on purpose!).
  • They will be preserved for the future and then re-animated.
  • Their money will be waiting for them, to continue their life in the future.
Cryogenics (the study of super-cold) has provided us with the technology for MRIs and long-term storage of blood. It will be interesting to see what it brings to the medical field in the future.

If we wake up to a world that we cannot recognise with none of our loved ones to keep us company, then I am not for it even if it comes free! Basically, I am against this idea; better be a brand new model to suit the times! siva

If you wanted to freeze your body and and live longer - just move to Minensota.

Suspended animation: Science fiction made to sound scientific - for a tidy profit, of course.

I froze a toad once. It didn't go too well for the toad. I still feel guilty for that.

When people start playing God, nothing good can come from it.

It's an idea all right, but against the wheel of life.
