Do We Have Too Many Laws?

Madison Ogashi
I have nothing against laws, laws are great! However, I believe we as a country have way too many laws that say the same thing over and over. In fact, this country was built on laws, which makes us a REPUBLIC, not a democracy. The Pledge of Allegiance says....and to the REPUBLIC for which it stands.

Our founding fathers gave us the basics on which to build a nation. A lady once asked Ben Franklin what do we have, a republic or a monarchy.....his reply was "A republic, if you can keep it." Did we keep it? Are we keeping it? Things have changed alot in the past 223 years, our culture, society , our way of life are all in a constant state of change. But what would the men who gave us the country say about it now? Would they even recognize it?

Laws and Amendments have been added through the years, some good, some not so good. As time went on, we made up new laws instead of going back and revising the old, those that can be revised. The law books that are published now could turn a public library into strictly a law library into itself.

Some people forget, with the Tea Parties and such going on today.....we've been through this before. Remember the times that lead up to the Revolutionary War? The King put tax upon tax on the colonies'. In addition, laws that were just unreasonable. Take a look around, what looks the same as then, and what looks different.

Take for example, the 2nd amendment...the right to bear arms. On paper, we still have that right. But with all the gun control laws on the books now, you wouldn't think so. Instead of taking the guns away on paper, they now have made the cost of the bullets so high, not many people can afford them, making the guns useless, and in effect....taking our guns away.

The Constitution told us how to fight back. But how can you fight back when the difference between parties become blurred. Sure, we can use our voting rights every 2 to 4 years, but what are we voting for? The interest of the country, or the person who can sweet talks us the best.

As I read the news, with all the good and bad together. I wonder....are we still "One Nation, Under God"?
Or have we forgotten about "We The People"? Call me what you will....Conservative, or Constitutionalist, I still believe in that one single document, with it first 10 laws and its seemingly outdated language, that gave us this country!

Typical Mepublican response. We need laws to protect us from people like you. Gun laws are needed so crazy idiots like you don't go out and shoot me because I am gay or non white or not citizen. We need jails to lock up crazy people like you so us wonderful gay non christian non whites can live fabulous wonderful lives without your negative holier than thou "God loves only white christian heterosexual mepublicans"

No where in the constitution does it absolutely give the right to murder and kill someone because they are atheist, homosexual, non white, non capitalist believing person! You have no right to get a gun out and start shooting people who are gay kissing each other. If that offends you, go some other place where hatred (Middle East) is the norm.
If you don't like Gays, Atheists,Vegetarians, Hippies,Homeless, Unemployeed people,The Poor,Mexicans,Asians,Native Americans,Polynesians, then go back to cheese eating,beer/wine drinking, pale faced Europe.

Lots to think about. We are about to have many more restrictions placed on us, and people may be sorry they voted for change just for the sake of change. Americans have had so many freedoms, it spoiled us!

Interesting opinion of our nation here. I too wonder about the laws that were and have recently come to light as being placed without anyone knowing or caring for what they actually do for or against us.
