I think, in general, glasses make someone appear more "studious" or "artistic" and less athletic. Look at the character in HBO's Flight of the Conchords, for example, whose highly prominent glasses make him appear to be more of a thoughtful and intellectual musician. Also look at George Costanza's glasses in the Seinfeld show; it makes him appear less aggressive and more office-friendly or domestic.
From personal experience, I can tell you that I have better experiences when I don't wear my glasses-even though I find putting in contact lenses to be a minor hassle. I suggest owning some contact lenses for weekends and nights out; wear glasses to work for everyday functions.
For some people with large facial features, a pair of thick-frame hipster glasses can accent their look very well, but for individuals with "smaller" features, glasses can be an altogether unflattering addition.
With the wide variety of contact lenses out there today-daily, weekly, monthly, and even yearly lenses-there is really no excuse for not experimenting with contact lenses (you will need a doctor's prescription, however).
It is interesting how business associates assume I am well-studied or knowledgeable about a certain task when I have my glasses on in a meeting, yet I do not get this same level of reverence when I come into work wearing contact lenses. Is it a coincidence? I don't know for sure, but I tend to think that people treat you differently when you have glasses on.
For attracting women and getting numbers, of course, looking "studious" may not be the best thing. Since I like rocker and alt-rock indie girls with tattoos and a bit of edge, I do not want to come across looking like Dilbert-this is part of the reason why I opt for contact lenses over the weekend.
One quick warning, however: if you wear contact lenses out to social events, be aware that you should avoid people who are smoking (and don't even think about smoking yourself). The smoke can get trapped under the lenses (most lenses are partially oxygen-permeable) and it will become quite uncomfortable-so much so that you may have to remove your lenses for the evening. So avoid smokers when you wear contacts!
