Do it Yourself Centerpieces for the Holidays

3 Great Ideas for Unique Holiday Centerpieces

If you love to decorate for the Holidays you are not alone. My family begins planning our Christmas decorations in November. One source of frustration has always been what to do over centerpieces for the dinner table. I have collected a few ideas that we have used over the years so that you can make some great do it yourself centerpieces for the Holidays. Each of these ideas are meant to be simple and inexpensive and hopefully you already own most of the supplies you would need to complete this project.

Candle Holders and Ornaments
This first idea involves you either collecting all of the candle holders you have in your house or going to your local store and purchasing 5-10 candle holders. If you are a stickler for making sure things match you would do well to go ahead and make your purchase. If you like to mix and match you can probably save yourself a little bit of money by using ones you already have laying around the house. As the name implies you must now also look for some ornamental Christmas balls. Look for ornaments that are similar in size to the candle holder. Place the ornamental balls on the top of the candle holders allowing them to rest in the opening at the top. The first time my wife used this center piece idea she used a solid white table cloth with matching silver candle holders and different colored ornamental Christmas balls. The different colors of balls allowed us to use different colors throughout the Holidays.

Crystal Bowls and Cranberries
If you have a favorite crystal bowl that stays locked up in your china cabinet all year then you need to let that special piece shine during the Holidays. Place your crystal bowl or vase in the center of your table and fill it with fresh cranberries. This is a very simple and easy do it yourself Holiday centerpiece and can be spiced up a bit with some garland lined around the bottom of the bowl. Other variations of this idea would be to add enough water to allow about 25-30 cranberries along with two or three floating votive candles to float on top of the water making a beautiful lighted centerpiece.

Crystal Bowls and Old Ornaments
Everyone has some mismatched Christmas ornaments. Specifically you are looking for ornamental balls that have either lost their partner due to breakage, or perhaps you have several ornamental balls that don't match your particular theme on the tree. Place enough ornamental balls in the bowl so that it presents the appearance of an overflowing or full bowl. Once again you can add to this idea by placing garland around the bottom of the bowl. My wife uses her crystal bowls along with the colorful ornamental balls on top of a white lace table cloth.
