Natural tile is ideal to install in a kitchen area. Available in quite a few earthen tones this tile is a great choice to give a kitchen area a warm cozy feeling. You can also find natural tile which is unglazed, and this can help to prevent slips and falls in kitchen areas as well. By far - the most popular tile types is glazed tile. This is what most people think of when they think "tile". Usually you will find glazed tiles in a bathroom environment, but some people also like to use it in an mud room, or entry breezeway. While this type of tile can be slippery, the glaze is often valued for its ability to be easy to clean.
Another more labor intensive choice, but also a more visually appealing choice, is Mosaic Tile. This type of tile can trace its roots all the way back to ancient Rome. Did you know that in ancient Rome some businesses has mosaic tile floors which were designed in the shape of a very rudimentary "corporate logo"? Today mosaic tile is considered very trendy and is available in a wide selection of colors and shapes. Mosaic tile used to be installed piece by piece but now some mosaic tile is available on backer sheets. It makes installing the tile very easy because you are installing large pieces of tile at a time. Another great thing about the already backed tile is that you don't have to worry so much about maintaining even spacing between the tile segments, as this is already taken care of for you. Strangely enough if your spacing is off on a mosaic tile job, it will be quite a bit more noticeable then on a regular tile job. This is because on a mosaic tile job you have a lot more grout lines than you do on a larger floor.
No matter what tile type you select, it is important to take into consideration color in your selection. As mentioned previously for a warm cozy feel you can consider some earth tones or a darker color tile. For a brighter airy look you can go with classic white. To really brighten things up consider installing a mosaic tile floor of multicolor tiles.
Before selecting your tile, be sure to ask for some samples from your tile supplier, that you can take home and see the tile in the room, and with the available light of the room. Sometimes tile can look very different in your home than it does in a showroom.
