When you are planning to redo your cushions you should read this article. There are ways to make your journey to DIY cushions rather easy. Take these tips to make it the quickest and easiest way possible.
When you are doing a regular, rectangular shaped cushion you should purchase some foam at the store. You will need to measure your cushions and add another 1 inch to the measurement all around to allow room for a seam. This is the easiest way to redo your cushions.
If you are planning to make a cushion that you stuff, then you can generally make your measurements ½ inches for a seam. Keep in mind that you must leave one end open partially to allow for the stuffing to be inserted.
Round Cushions
Rounded cushions may take a little longer. First you will need to make sure that you have a good template for your cushion. A great way to do this is to get a cut out a piece of cardboard in the shape of a circle that is as big as your cushion. You will need to add 1 inch for a regular foam cushion and a ½ inch for a stuffed cushion. Make sure that you leave a space about six inches long in the back of the cushion to insert either the foam or stuffing insert.
Great Fabric Ideas for Your Cushions
For great DIY cushions you will have several fabric choices. Picking the right fabric will take some time. What you want to keep in mind is that you want the right colors and the right texture. A heavier weight fabric is needed for cushions, as you will put a lot of wear and tear on them. Some heavier weight fabrics may be more difficult to sew or to cut, but keep in mind when your cushions are completed, they will look fantastic.
When you are in the fabric store looking for fabrics for your cushions, carry along a good paint sample of your room. You should notice that colors that compliment that original color of your room are best to go with. Do not choose starkly different colors from the color of your wall.
If you choose to have a pattern in your fabric, make it a smaller one. Big patterns on cushions will stand out to much. You will want others to notice your choice of fabrics, but not so much that it is the focal point of the room. Keep the pattern smaller so that it blends in with the rest of the room but also looks very nice.
Make sure that you get a fabric that is washable. You will not want to have to dry clean your cushions. Get a fabric that you can wash and then you can keep them clean at all times.
Closing Thoughts
Making your own cushions will be fun. Not to mention that the end look will be distinctly your own. So start now to create your very own looks with the above mentioned tips. It will really make your home look comfy.
