Do-It-Yourself Holiday Coasters

A Cheap and Simple Holiday Craft

Liz Hall

This holiday craft is so simple and affordable, I pumped them out in bulk to give away as cute and cheap Christmas gifts this year.

Here's what you'll need:

4"x4" ceramic tiles - You can get them as cheap at 16 cents at Home Depot or Lowes.

Cutesy drink napkins (think: Santas, Jack-O-Lanterns, Easter Eggs, etc.)

Mod Podge

Acrylic sealer

Cork board - This will go on the back of the tiles. You can buy cork with different levels of thickness. I prefer the thin kind, but you might like a thicker version. You can get this at any craft store like JoAnn Fabrics or Michael's.

Glue gun

Sponge applicators for Mod Podge

Steps:

  1. Cut the napkins so that they are slightly smaller than tile surface.
  2. Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to tile surface and glue napkin down. Let dry.
  3. Apply a layer of Mod Podge over napkin. Let dry.
  4. Spray tiles with a layer of acrylic sealer. Let dry. You may want to apply two coats of the sealer.
  5. Cut cork board into squares that are slightly smaller than tile. Hot glue gun onto the backs of the tiles.

And that's it - you're done! I bundled my tiles into sets of four and tied them with colorful ribbons. My gifts were received with enthusiasm and gratitude. This holiday craft is perfect for any occasion, especially because of how easy and affordable it is.
