As the holidays approach everyone begins to think about holiday gifts for friends, family and co-workers. Unfortunately not everyone has an income that matches their spirit of giving. Is it possible to give holiday gifts on a budget? Do it yourself holiday gifts are simple to make and keep you within your budget for everyone on your list.

Here are a few suggestions for some do it yourself holiday gifts on a budget.

Recipes In A Jar

Cookies, muffins and sweets are good gifts for co-workers and teachers, as well as neighbors. If you are making these for a man, get a premade chili or soup mix. Once you decide what kind of recipe you are putting in the jar then gather your supplies. Jars, lids, rings, scrap material, ribbon and tags to hang from the jars.

Pour ingredients into the jar. Place lid over the jar and cover with a piece of scrap material. Place the ring over the material and attach a tag and ribbon with a list of any required additional wet ingredients as well as the instructions for cooking. If you are creative, decorate the jars in any way you like but even the most basic decorations on these gifts make them look really good. Now you have a thoughtful gift for under five dollars.

Handmade Soaps And Candles

These products are very easy to make. Go to your local craft store and pick up a kit for these items. You can usually get them for under twenty dollars and you can make several items with each kit. The only thing you may need to purchase outside of the kit are jars for the candle. Often the dollar glass votive holders work quite nicely and a pound of candle wax, goes a very long way with these holders.

Simply follow the instructions on the kit to melt the wax or soap base, add color and scent, pour them into molds, let them set until cool and firm and then wrap them up. With both of these items you can be very creative in packaging. Soap can be poured into the openings in a loofa or you can add herbs or exfoliating products such as apricot seed or even a nice sea salt. Candles can be put into any heat resistant container to add a personal touch such as a nice jar, cup or bowl. Be creative in your ideas here, as there are many ways to make a wonderful holiday gift on a budget with these items. These do it yourself gifts are a hit with everyone and you will have fun making them .

All of the items above can be nice on their own, in pairs, groups or as part of a thoughtful gift basket. Soaps and candles can be part of a bath basket that might also include some bubble bath, a bath sponge and a nice soothing CD or you can spice it up with some sexier ideas for a romantic basket.

The recipe jars can be part of a movie night with either a DVD or a certificate for a movie rental. Add a pound of coffee or can of hot cocoa and you have a family movie night in a basket.

Part of the fun of a do it yourself gift is creating something unique to the recipients taste. Have fun with them and be as creative as you like. You will be amazed at the ideas you come up with for these gift baskets.
