Step # 1
Soak your hands in water. The water should be as hot as you can stand it, but not so hot it burns you. The warmer the water is the more it will relax the muscles in your fingers and soften your skin.
Step # 2
Gently file your nails to your desired shape. When filing, try going in one direction only instead of trying to "saw" back and forth. When you do the "saw" method you are actually helping your nails split and tear, so you really don't want to do that!
Step # 3
Use any lotion that has vitamin E in it and rub it all over your hands. Be sure to rub it right into your nails and the cuticle bed, as this will help keep them strong and healthy.
Step # 4
Now that your cuticles are nice and soft, take an orange stick and gently push them in the opposite direction of your nail growth. Don't push too hard, because you can tear them and this can start an infection!
Step # 5
Use a clear coat and paint all of your nails with a single coat. Then with your favorite color polish go over the clear coat. Make sure to use three strokes on each nail. This should cover each nail and leave them smooth without bumps or streaks. Allow your nails to dry for three minutes, then apply a second coat, again using only three strokes. Allow to dry for three minutes more, then apply a second coat of clear polish.
Make sure your nails are fully dry before you go doing any activity with your hands or you will have wasted all that time! It used to take approximately ten minutes or more for them to dry, but with all the new technology out there today, you can get nail polish that will fully dry in under a mixture!
There you have it! It's really that simple to do your own manicure and it shouldn't take you longer than a half an hour! Save that ten or fifteen dollars a week and take just a half an hour on Sunday and make your nails look beautiful for the whole week!
