Do it Yourself Wedding Reception Food

Wedding receptions are probably the costliest element of any wedding. Perhaps the most expensive element of the wedding reception is the food. If you are on a tight budget, there is no reason why you cannot make your food. Although my husband and I had catered food at our wedding, I was the maid of honor at a wedding that made their own. The reception was wonderful! However, to keep your life sane, there are a few simple tips you should keep in mind while preparing your own wedding reception food.

Buy in Bulk
It is not uncommon to host 250 people or more at a wedding reception. For this reason, it is quite necessary to buy in bulk. There are several club stores that sell bulk items. Make sure you don't put off the purchasing until the last minute. Get your bulk items as soon as you possibly can. This will save you headache in the future.

Designate a Server
It is quite handy for there to be a designated person responsible for filling and refilling serving bowls and trays. Although this person does not need to serve each and every person, they are available for assistance at all times. Having someone who has the job of server takes a lot of pressure off the bride and groom at the wedding reception.

Set up/ Clean up
Most of the time making your own wedding reception food means that you will be responsible for set up and clean up. Unfortunately, the person/or persons who set up the food will probably miss the wedding. Designate these folks accordingly. After the wedding reception is over, be sure you have already designated someone to clean up the mess. The last thing a bride and groom want to do on their wedding night is clean up food.

Personal Touch
One of the benefits of making your own wedding reception food is the ability to add your own personal touch. If there is a family recipe, add that to your menu. If you want homemade cookies with your initials printed, you can make those as well. Making your own wedding reception food makes you in charge of every aspect from the menu to the layout. Be sure you make your food special to you.

Do it yourself wedding reception food can be stressful. However, if you designate certain tasks to different people, the job won't seem as tough. Wedding reception food doesn't always have to cost an arm and a leg.
