Surrounded by well known physicians and scientists since childhood, Dr. Martirosov grew up trained to be a doctor. With both parents being distinguished physicians in Russia, the decision by young Aleksandr Martirosov was made early to follow on the footsteps of his parents. He learned about the importance of healthy body and mind early from his parents, and later from an extensive course of study. In 1986, Dr. Martirosov graduated St-PetersburgТs Medical Academy with the degree of Medical Doctor and started practicing medicine. In 1990, Dr. Martirosov learned about Osteopathy and realized that his vision of medicine is very similar to the philosophy of the Osteopathic teaching so he decided to continue his education and become a doctor of Osteopathy.
In 1996, Dr. Martirosov graduated from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine with the degree of Doctor of Osteopathy. Osteopathic schools emphasize training students to be primary care physicians and take the "whole person" approach to medicine. Instead of just treating specific symptoms or illnesses, they regard a personТs body as an integrated whole.
Osteopathic physicians focus on preventive healthcare and receive extra training in the musculoskeletal system. This training provides osteopathic physicians with a better understanding of the ways that an injury or illness in one part of a body can affect another and gives DO's a therapeutic and diagnostic advantage over other doctors. Osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) allows physicians to use their hands to diagnose injury and illness and to encourage body's natural tendency toward good health.
Dr. Martirosov believes that medicine should offer more than just administering drugs to the patients, and supports a philosophy of medicine based on ideas that date back to Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine. The philosophy focuses on the unity of all body parts. He recognizes the body's natural ability to heal itself and stresses preventive medicine, eating properly, and keeping fit. By combining all medical procedures with Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment, Dr. Martirosov offers his patients the most comprehensive care available in medicine today.
Dr. Aleksandr Martirosov is a Doctor of Osteopathy, and Board Certified in Family and Anti-Aging Medicine as well as Holistic, Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
