Doctor Suggests Ways to Ensure You Don’t Get Cancer from Your Phone

To Avoid Getting Cancer from Your Phone, Keep it Farther from Your Body

It's an issue that has been swirling around in the press from the earliest days of the cell phone; does it cause cancer? Cleary no one knows for sure, but the latest findings in the research community suggest that maybe it does. Just this past summer the World Health Organization saying they think it might, but they can't say for sure. Because of this dithering, most people have simply chosen to ignore all the press. But what if in so doing, people are putting themselves at risk? Doctor Lissa Rankin thinks there's enough evidence to suggest that people ought to at least start taking some precautions, which she outlines in a recent issue of Psychology Today.

The first thing is to recognize that the reason a cell phone might cause cancer is because it emits a very tiny bit of radiation. Thus, to avoid putting yourself at risk, she suggests figuring out ways to change you phone patterns to keep the phone distant from parts of your body when it is emitting that radiation.

The first thing every cell phone user should do, she says, is buy an ear piece. It doesn't matter if it's a fancy blue-tooth contraption or simple ear buds. Just buy whatever you need to so that when you're talking on your phone, you won't have to place your phone directly against your head. That's like aiming the radiation at yourself.

She also suggests that people start taking antioxidants like glutathione that can help rid the body of detrimental effects of radiation. In a similar vein, she suggests doing whatever is necessary to give yourself the healthiest immune system possible. Doing so will also help fight any negative consequences of radiation entering the body.

Also, it's important she says for people to understand that cell phones still emit radiation even when you're not talking on them. If your phone can ring, she says, that means its on, and if it's on, its emitting radiation. The reason this is important is because some people, particularly men, tend to carry their phones in their pockets, which means they are potentially exposing that part of their body to unnecessary long term exposure to radiation. This is particularly troublesome if they carry it in their front pants pocket as they may be exposing their genitals. The smart thing to do is turn your cell phone completely off when not using it.

People should also be aware that children are far more sensitive to low level doses of radiation than are adults due to the higher rate of cell growth in their bodies. Thus it might be a good idea to teach them to turn off their phones when not using them and make doubly sure they use earpieces when talking on them.
