Doctors and Refills on Medications

Doctors and Hospitals Are Overcharging Patients

KB
Two weeks ago i called my husbands doctor and asked that his Synthroid be refilled again, they informed me that he had to come back in again and pay 75.00 dollars plus the cost of the thyroid test in order to get his Synthroid refilled. I told them at the time that we could not afford the payment for the visit and would they just please refill it for now. I assumed they would, so when my husband went to HEB to try and get his Synthroid he was told the doctor never refilled it.

Today, I contacted the doctors office and asked them once again for the refills on my husbands Synthroid and was told that they had denied it. I asked them if he could come in and make a payment later and I was told they didn't except payment plans, I asked them where DO NO HARM came in by refusing to refill his medicine considering he had been Hypothyroid since 2001. She told me the AMA dictates how refills are to be given out.

In this economy, people can't always afford to go and pay for a doctors visit just to get refills. I personally think that doctors are just being greedy, especially at the prices they are charging. I found out a few weeks ago that the insurance companies charge you 3 times what the actual cost of the procedure is, so, say an ultrasound of your thyroid cost 125.00 dollars you are actually going to pay 375.00 dollars.

Doctors offices and hospitals are always whining that people won't pay their medical bills, why should they pay them when they are being charged 3 times the amount of the actual bill. They assume everyone is rich at the prices they charge. When will this stop.
