Documentary Review of True Guts

If You Don't See Anything Else This Year, See This

Gary Davis
Wow! Everyone who is a sufferer of ulcerative colitis or Crohn's Disease needs to see the movie "True Guts". This is a movie that covers the truth about these illnesses and is a 2007 Josh Golder Film that outlines numerous people's comments about their individual battle with an inflammatory bowel illness. Further, this film won the Best Inflammatory Film Award and the Best Medical Film Award. Do you need more incentive to see the movie?

The film unveils two new support websites ChrohnsHumira.com and ChronsRemocade.com.

The film has real people talking about real problems. Some of these people are pro sports players; some are high school students. There are parents and there are girls and there are boys. The conversation and comments are direct but tasteful; helpful and comprehensive but they never lose their dignity.

However, what wins my heart about this film is the topics covered. When you listen to a young high school girl talk about privacy and positive thinking you get hope. When you listen to a pro football player talk about the need to go to the bathroom 20 times a day and yet he is playing pro sports you can't help but be a little proud that you're in this kind of company.

Every conceivable topic that would be of importance to sufferers of ulcerative colitis or Crohn's Disease is covered. What do you do when you are looking sickly? What about feeling angry? How do you deal with the embarrassment of ulcerative colitis? How do you deal with people's impressions?

I did not know that ulcerative colitis was the fastest growing illness in industrialized countries. I found that out from the film and it is full of fascinating information like that.

While the move "True Guts" also boasts small lectures by renowned medical specialists, the heart and soul of the movie is the people who give up their privacy to share with you.

"True Guts" finally says in film what people that have inflammatory bowel disease already know, that the pain and actual disease process pales in comparison to the harm one's self image takes when diagnosed; the uncertainty one faces about the future.

It is easy to recommend this film, even above other commercial films. You will learn more about your illness than you have ever known before; you will get access to state-of-the-art websites; you will see that there is nothing in this life that you can't do and, you will have the facility to get involved if you wish; there is a way to become active in educating the public.

I was awed.
