Documents Needed Once You Get a Work Permit in Argentina

If you are hoping to come to South American to take up employment in Argentina your first order of business to get your self a work permit. Only after you get a valid work permit are you legally able to take up employment in Argentina. While you are able to work once you get a work permit there are other documents that you will need to get as soon as you arrive in Argentina and begin working.

One of the most important items that you will need to get is your national identity document which is called the Documento Nacional de Identidad (DNI). It is about the size of a United States Social Security card and also contains an identification number like the US social security card. The DNI is your personal identity number that you will need when you enter into a contract of any sort, such as an employment contract. You are required to get your DNI within 90 days of arriving in Argentina to work. You will apply for your DNI at the Registro Nacional de las Personas in the jurisdiction where you live in Argentina. You will need to have your birth certificate, a certificate of residence and a document that lists your personal address when you apply for your DNI.

A CUIT, or Clave Unica de Identificacion Tributaria, is a tax ID code number that you will also need to get once you take up employment. Your employer will need your CUIT so that they can contribute taxes for you. If you are self employed or a business owner you will need to get a CUIT in your business name to pay taxes. You can get a CUIT at the Administracion Federal de Ingresos Publicos (AFIP) in the area where your business is located. All you will need to apply for your CUIT is your DNI and the 160/F form that is unique to the CUIT application.

In order for your employer to transfer your taxes to the Argentine government you will need to have your tax ID code for work purposes, called a Clave Unico de Indentificacion Laboral or CUIL. You also have to have your CUIL number so that your company can add you to the payroll. You can apply for your CUIL by phone with the Unidades de Atencion Telefonica or you can go in person to the Unidades de Atencion Intregal office or visit the website of the Administracion Nacional de la Seguridad Social. Your employer can also apply for your CUIL on your behalf. You will need to have you DNI and proof of your local address when you apply.
