Does the 6 Meal Diet or Mini Meals Diet Work for Weight Loss?

My Experiences with the 6 Meal Diet

Marie M. Daniels
The basic concept for the 6 meal diet is that you will spread your eating out over 6 meals a day. Those 6 meals should be eaten every few hours and all meals totaled will be within your calorie goals. The overall theory of the 6-meal diet sounds simple, but it gets a little more complex once you get to the actual meal part.

I thought that the 6 mini meal diet would be a great fit for my lifestyle. I am a stay at home mom who is never far from the kitchen, and I basically snack all day long. The snacking all day long has lead me to gain some extra poundage that I would like to lose. I was looking for a diet to incorporate into my life that wouldn't be a strain and simple to follow. Deciding to do the 6-meal diet was the easy part sticking to the diet and following the plan was not as easy.

I found out that the 6 meals would be six meals for a man. Men with all their muscles and naturally higher metabolism, ugh. So it was recommended that women only eat 5 meals a day. Women could eat 6 meals but each meal would only have about 200 calories if you went by the traditional 1200 calories a day for women. Five meals still sounded fine, I was still under the delusion that these were meals. I later found out that they were more like snack meals, with only about two items on my plate.

Pro's for 6 meal diet:
1. Eat healthier - everyone else in the family has to eat better because I do the grocery shopping and I am not buying sugary snacks.
2. More protein - with exception to the Adkins diet, I am eating more protein than I normally would on a diet.
3. More energy - I did feel like I had more energy throughout the day.
4. Drinking more water - found myself drinking more water to help me feel fuller.

Con's of 6 meal diet:
1. There are really only 5 meals for women.
2. Small amount of food - I still felt hungry and not ever fully satisfied.
3. Small meals - more like snacks or mini meals.
4. Calorie counting - count every calorie and use portion control.

Unfortunately for my waistline, I did not last long on the 6-meal diet plan. I was hoping to feel satisfied because of many meals throughout the day. I also believed I would have more energy because I was eating more protein and more often. I did feel more energy but I am not sure if it was because of this diet or because I was ingesting caffeinated drinks. I think that the 6 mini meal diet requires planning, perseverance, willpower, and self-control. Those things must all come together for any diet to work. I must have been lacking something to allow me to continue with this diet. I am sure that I will find some other fad diet to lose a few pounds here and there. There's yoyo dieting for you.

These were just my findings of the 6 meal diet plan that I used. I am not a doctor nor do I have any medical or nutritional degrees.
