Overall, you have to look at your marketing budget. What can you afford to pay these other promotional advertising ventures (online and print ad options)? How many people or potential customers are reviewing these sites? Are you generating book or product sales from these advertising sites and print ads? These are some important questions and concerns you should have before making a final offer to agree to making a payment to these vendors or businesses.
There are Ning sites that also offer promotional and marketing sites. It would be best to review how many members are on the site and does this Ning site have similar interests to yours. For example, if you are an author, you will be looking for sites that tailor to authors, literary related or genre-based interests or subject-titles, and other marketing options such as posting your web banner and web site. There are some Ning Sites that offer for a monthly fee to post your web banners, put your items on their Stores to sell your merchandise or books, and you can fix your page to gear your audience to your websites without paying these fees.
There are also book club membership fees to promote and market your material. Again, verify how many members are involved in their book club and if they have search optimization features for people performing Google searches will come to their site. Now, there are even other vendors and review organizations that are starting to offer author tables at events, excerpts of your book(s) or posting a photo of you and your book with a bio on their website(s), and how they can purchase your book(s) in their catalogs or brochures at events they attend, and post your book and website on their sites too. Others are creating other promotional items to authors that are inexpensive for a one-time minimal fee or monthly fee or yearly fee, where ads, books, websites, excerpts, and your information (bios/books synopsis), and email resources available on various websites.
I have tried a few of these options listed above and have not seen a pike in my book sales. However, it is branding my name as an unknown author and when people see me at these book events, virtual tours, and online radio stations such as BlogTalkRadio in the chat rooms or on the call, they are familiar with my latest book and/or name. Then, it can stir an interest in purchasing your books and/or products after they are getting to know you as a person (or your brand). This will help with future book sales.
